The bookmark filled with air

May 20, 2008
It doesn't matter whether you like reading or not, but you probably know what an ordinary bookmark is. Being one of the simplest things we use, a paper bookmark performs the only function of finding the place where you left off and opening to that page easier. Despite the fact that we could hardly find someone who thought that such kind of device needs improvements, a group of Korean designers managed to create something really useful, yet very simple in its structure.

Their new gadget is called Abracadabra and it seems to be a new type of bookmark using the movement of air. The concept represents an air-filled chamber, half of which is flattened by the weight of a book. Thus squeezing the exposed side inflates the concealed side and, as a consequence, lifts the page just enough for your finger to slip in. Moreover, designers say that it's possible to create a kind of tree using old Abracadabras. You can detach the pot from the paper and by folding the wires the tree comes to life; after that add the bookmarks just by clipping them into the center of the wires. Yet you can do this just for fun, because such a tree can not be used for any purpose.

Although a bookmark as a device seems to be insignificant, given gadget has every prospect of success. Besides that this concept due to its unusualness can make bookmarks very popular. Yet there is possibility that some book lovers may find it useless and will go on using ordinary paper bookmarks.
