Swype – future text system in mobile phones?

Sep 15, 2008
Clive Kushler, inventor of T9 typing system for mobile phones proposes a new text technology for touchscreen gadgets.

We all know T9 text introducing system for mobile phones, based on the dictionary. The person who invented this system Clive Kushler proposes now a new technology in this domain, created this time for devices that have a touchscreen.

Instead of pressing each letter apart, Swype proposes crossing on the touchscreen from one letter to another without raising the finger or stylus from the screen till the end of the word.

It is not necessary for users to cross all the letters because Swype also guesses the word as T9.

Swype creator says that any user can learn to write using the Swype and to reach in short time at a speed of approx. 50 words per minute, faster on overage than writing on a simple PC keyboard. He also says that Swype offers a natural sensation when it is used and that there is no need in a big precision for touching letters.

Among other features we can include automat insertion of spaces between words, correction of errors, and a shortcut for writing with a capital letter (selection of a letter or letters and making a swiping gesture to the superior part of the screen) auto correction of letters with diacritics through the dictionary and many other advanced functions for text formatting.

Swype can be used on each device with a touchscreen, from mobile phones and tablets to monitors and consoles. The system recognizes only English, French, German and Spanish yet.

Swype creators hope that this technology will be standard on the future devices with touchscreen. It remains to see which producer will be the first that will adopt Swype.
