Brand new sustainable eco-surfboard

Mar 31, 2009
Brand new sustainable eco-surfboard launched. It is made of more than 50 percent of renewable materials and developed by Eden Project in England in association with local companies. It is an environmentally-friendly surfboard and it has been in development in the south west of England for five years. It is all about a surfboard which reduces the reliance on petroleum chemicals and uses more sustainable materials. The Eden team in tandem with Homeblown company worked together to finally develop a new type of foam core for the eco-board with 15 to 20 percent of plant derived materials.

The concept of the green board seems to meet the environmental needs with its surfboards made of just wood, hemp cloth and plant-based resin. Another local Cornish company, Sustainable Composites, developed a resin made almost entirely from linseed oil, showing that over 50 percent of the final product is made from renewable materials. New eco-surfboard tends to become more buoyant, helping in waves catching process. Sea is protected along with the natural environment by surfers using their eco-surfboard instead of those with toxic substances. Using eco-friendly products does help us out with a global warming alarm. The company was looking for using starch waste taken, from potato peelings which makes it possible to create environmentally friendly foam as light as the polyurethane foam.
