Good news for Apple iPhone and BlackBerry owners. On Tuesday Skype will debut with new application for the smartphones at the CTIA Wireless convention. Skype works through the Internet Protocol (VoIP).And now it is available for Apple’s iPhone and the BlackBerry. Skype has long been an in-demand mobile application with more than 450 million registered users. Clients from third party developers such as Truphone and Nimbuzz allow Skype functionality on the iPhone. But for the BlackBerry it will be the first Skype-powered application.
First Skype for Windows Mobile was announced in December and it’s called Skype Lite. Further Skype was available for more then 100 Java-enabled mobile phones. In January 2009 Google’s Android mobile platform was reconstructed for using Skype application. The idea to rebuild Skype for Apple’s iPhone was received from companies costumers. The company’s CEO, Scott Durchslag, said that company will officially announce the application on Tuesday at the CTIA Wireless convention.
Skype for iPhone would come to market as early as this week. It will be free to download and allow free calls from one Skype account to the other. More than that, it will support one day video calls.
Last week, Skype released a beta version of Skype for SIP(Session Initiation Protocol). It allows peer-to-peer VoIP clients to interact with existing IP PBXs. IDC’s research analyst for enterprise mobility Rebecca Swensen thinks that it is good news for business. Connecting to existing standards-based SIP PBXes is a good way for Skype to start doing so,” she says. It will be interesting to see how large companies change their thinking about the deployment of Skype within the network."
