Powercast looking to bring wireless power to reality
Apparently, all that is about to become nonsense, as a Pennsylvania-based startup is set to capture the wireless-loving hearts of, um, everyone when it tackles contactless power products. Powercast has already "signed nondisclosure agreements to develop products with more than 100 companies (Philips, for instance), including major manufacturers of cellphones, MP3 players, automotive parts, temperature sensors, hearing aids, and medical implants.

Roomba Floor Vac Robot / Electrolux Trilobyte
Unlike the Bug Mop, the Roomba actually vacuums up debris and uses infrared sensors and a "virtual wall" accessory to navigate obstacles. At \$199 the Roomba is a better value than the Bug Mop I think.

Intelligent textiles keep track of your health
According to project co-coordinator Jean Luprano from Swiss-based CSEM, these sensors have been built and tested in the lab, with the integration into textile patches going underway. It wont be long before a multi-sensor patch is produced, giving the researchers a chance to sense several elements of the human body in parallel.

BT Balance bring semblance of Wii to laptop
This is made possible by including movement sensors inside the adapter which subsequently sends signals to the laptop, where the pre-loaded software will be used to translate the motions read into actions and commands for the computer to execute. The BT Balance was developed mainly for computer users who are having a hard time using both mouse and keyboard (how is that possible compared to tilting and moving a laptop, I dont know).

MIT gurus developing bionic feet / ankles
In a recent patent application, the team describes an "artificial foot and ankle joint" consisting of a "leaf spring foot member," flexible elastic ankle, and an actuator motor that applies force to the ankle. Aside from sporting a fairly intelligent system to improving one's gait, it also boasts a built-in safety feature that prevents foot rotation beyond a specified angle, and the internal sensors can also activate the motors at different intervals depending on the surface in which one is walking.

Macroswiss dishes out modern day periscope with DVR
Thanks to Macroswiss, however, a newfangled position could be opening up for those not quite ready for the frontline, as its Advanced Combat Camera System (ACCS) is essentially a "giraffe pole camera system" which allows a camcorder to be held out at a "safe distance" and record footage to an onboard DVR. While we're not exactly sure what type of go-go gadget reach this thing has, we do know the camera system touts "color zoom, low light / thermal sensors," and can be deployed in a variety of scenarios to support combat units and keep a video log of actual events for training and reporting purposes.

US Air Force getting Matrix-style camera to see bullets in slo-mo
Nova Sensors of Solvang, California has designed the Variable Acuity Superpixel Technology (VAST) system, which is reportedly capable of tracking "anything slower than a bullet," but the shifty part is that this camera can home in on speeding shells as well, hopefully lending a hand in protecting soldiers in the years to come. The machine focuses on heat bursts emitted in the infrared range by moving bullets in order to detect an incoming projectile; ideally, it would be connected to "active armor" that could move, expand, or otherwise protect an individual or a entire platoon if a stray (or purposeful) bullet was headed their way.

GlowBots develop relationships, express emotions via LEDs
GlowBots are wee wheeled creatures that "develop attractive patterns that are affected both by user interaction and communication between the robots," meaning that the days of expensive animal training in order to have a pet around are nearly through. The technology within is based on an open experimental robot platform, dubbed e-Puck, and the actual robots utilize "eight IR proximity sensors, a camera, a trio of microphones, three-axis accelerometer, a speaker, two stepper motors, Bluetooth interface, a number of LEDs, a PIC micro controller, and a 12-step-mode selector" to confess their love.

Toyota getting into the anti-drunk driving game
Although Nissan has already considered an add-on option that would prevent inebriated individuals from motoring around on a whim, it looks like Toyota is following suit with its own anti-drunk driving approach. Reportedly, the automaker is developing a "fail-safe system for cars that detects drunken drivers and automatically shuts the vehicle down if sensors pick up signs of excessive alcohol consumption.
