What are the best processor speeds in mobile devices nowadays? About 600 to 700 MHz, right? Samsung has introduced two new application processors today. The S5PC110 and S5PV210 based on ARM CORTEX A8 both clock at impressive 1GHz. From the today’s Samsung Mobile Solutions Forum in Seoul we know that first samples will crawl out no sooner that December 2009, so we probably won’t be able to buy any of two in a smartphone this year. And while we are on the subject, new ARM CORTEX A8 series are not for mobile phones only.Features of both S5PC110 and S5PV210 are mostly common with only stipulation that S5PC110 is designed for portable mobile devices and S5PV210 is aimed for pocket computer gadgets, may be netbooks and PMPs I imagine. Anyway, Samsungs fabricates latest ARM CORTEX processors on 45nm fabrication process, equips them with 32KB data, 32KB instruction and 512KB L2 caches. The effects of these and integrated 1080p full HD codec engine full HD playback and reordering at 30fps, very fast UI response (touchscreen owners will love it), very fast 3D rendering and perfectly smooth browsing.
Differences between S5PC110 and S5PV210 are housing pitch: 0.5mm, 14 x 14mm2 FBGA package for S5PC110 and 0.65mm pitch with 17 x 17mm2 FBGA package for S5PV210.
Only price concerns me now. It clear that they will provide exceptional performs, but in what it will stand for the end users?
