Samsung Instinct vs. iPhone 3G: which one will be better?

Jun 07, 2008
It's not only the battle of two devices it is the battle of two cell phone services providers: Sprint and AT&T. These two phones will be their best and most powerful presenters that they have. iPhone 3G is not out yet but AT&T was successfully selling the previous versions of iPhone for almost a year now. So some people love AT&T and other love Sprint and it's their choice. What we are going to do is compare the features of the two phones.

First of all let's do the comparison of the exterior of Samsung Instinct and iPhone. Instinct is made mainly of plastic which is not that neat today; iPhone has pats made of metal and harden glass to prevent it from scratching.

As to AT&T vs. Sprint there are some advantages and disadvantages; but concerning these phones Sprint is giving very high internet speeds and music store from any point of coverage. AT&T's iPhone can only connect to iTunes store via Wi-Fi, which restricts it to the city limits. Besides, everybody knows about Samsung Instinct's and iPhone's GPS capabilities.

I personally liked the voice control on Samsung Instinct; however not sure if it would work as good as they demonstrate it, so train your speech to be able to control it.
I'm not sure if it was a good idea to have the keyboard only in landscape mode. My personal opinion is that I want to choose what mode to use because it really frustrates me that I need to turn it every time I want to input some text.

One more thing that I love about Instinct is its open platform. I really like to install and use the software I choose. iPhone has made a pretty good job on giving positive experience for the customers but it is closed platform.

Another good thing about Instinct is that they give an additional battery and an external battery charger, which can be very helpful during traveling.

iPhone should be twice as fast in web browsing as the old iPhone is. It supports Bluetooth, GPRS, GSM, EDGE, Wi-Fi, HSDPA, UMTS connectivity and that's what they are proud about. One of the biggest news: it will be able to give you 3G video talks with your friends.

One other big news is that Apple is going to allow third party applications on their iPhone but only those that are approved by them. Not sure how popular that will be. Apple has done a pretty good job on the user interface. And the question I have is: "Will the third party applications be free or they are going to charge the customers for that?" The platform it is running on is Mac OS X Mobile which should bring the customers best experiences.

In the rest of features the iPhone 3G will be just as its predecessor (one of the best phones out there.) It will roll out on July the 11th in 70 countries of the world. The 8GB version will cost $199 and the 16GB version will cost $299.

I just ordered an Instinct today, now I'm not so sure cause all I do is text. I'm hearing it's not a good texting phone. Maybe I should have taken the free Sanyo with a keyboard. I love my Rumor keyboard but had it almost two years and my keypad stopped working and the instinct was the best deal Sprint had to offer me for a somewhat smartphone. I will post my comments after using it, but I know it's not better than an Iphone, but it sure was a lot cheaper.

I had the Instinct for about a year and a half, and I have never owned the Iphone. The Instinct has great applications and the Sprint service plans are great. I don't think i have ever dropped a call.

Why does everyone who prefers the Instinct have to type run-on sentences in all caps?

I have the iPhone. I have used the instinct and the iPhone in my opinion is way better. The instinct doesn't have the sensor in it to make the screen rotate with the phone which makes it really convenient when browsing the web, looking at pictures, and playing games. When you play games it's such an awesome feature that the instinct doesn't have. Also, why are people saying the iPhone sucks without wifi? You don't need wifi to browse the web. The iPhone also has sooo much space on it to store music, movies, pictures, and apps. Speaking of apps, there are so awesome. There is an app for almost everything. It makes the phone so entertaining. Apple is coming out with a new upgrade in software this summer of 2009 that will also now allow multimedia messaging which in my opinion will make the phone flawless. The email on the phone is great and the text messaging on it is awesome. You can save all your texts and never run out of space and the conversation view is great how there is no more "inbox" and "outbox" because the whole conversation is right in front of you. The iPhone's actual touch screen works better than the instinct since it's heat sensitive. There are no accidental calling and the screen scrolls better with a touch of a finger. The iPhone is a much better phone.

I had an instinct for about two months and I hated it. I actually dropped sprint and went with an iPhone and AT&T because I couldn't imagine spending another 10 months with the instinct. The iPhone is better in all aspects. The instinct may have more features than the iPhone but none of them work well. The iPhone is close to flawless.

When you need to go online somewhere with no wifi can you tether up your lappy with your iPhone???? nope... but you can with Instict pretty fast too

The iphone beats the insinct in almost all categories, and it is much sleeker and has a better resolution screen.

So, here's the killer for me (and many people, I would imagine). iPhone might not have every single bell and whistle that Instinct or the Storm have, but it's still an iPod and a phone in one. Anyone that has had to carry around both a phone and an mp3 player (a real one, not the crappy kind with maybe a gig or two of storage that are fairly common in phones these days) should appreciate not having to do that.

I didn't buy the iPhone because of the data connectivity, or the e-mail, or the apps... though I find myself using and appreciating all of these. I didn't buy it for the easy text messaging or the keyboard or the camera, though I use these from time to time as well. I bought it because I was sick of carrying around an iPod and a phone at the same time, and because I already had all of my music in iTunes so I could just plug it in and go. For me, all of these data things are basically just bells and whistles that I never planned to use, and all I wanted was a good mp3 player combined with a decent phone. That's iPhone. 3G and GPS are a bonus, no doubt, but iPhone still combines the best mp3 player available with a decent phone and a decent and growing set of other features.

THE IPHONE CRASHES, THE SCREEN IS GLASS SO IF U DROP IT IT CRACKS, TYPING IS HRDER BECUZ THE LETTERS R SMALLER AND SPACED OUT THE IPHONE IS FAR SLOWER... INSTINCT STAYS FAST AND WRKS EASILY. IPHONE CHANGES UP CUZ IT WRKS LIKE A COMPUTR, NOW THE IPHONE IS STILL A GOOD FONE BUT THE INSTINCT IS FAR BETTER SO UNTIL THE IPHONE CAN REALLY WOW ME LIKE THE INSTINCT DID I WONT BE BUYING ANOTHR ONE IN A LONG TIME

Reading most of the comments, I sill believe the iPhone is a better phone as well as ATT being a good wireless phone company.
I've never ever had a dropped call with my service with ATT. And I've been with ATT for 6 years. The iphone is great because of all the entertainment you can get out of it.
I don't see Sprint coming out with 3rd party apps anytime soon. The iPhone has better usefulness in that manner.
Also - I've tried the instinct. the quality is far worse than the iPhone. The iPhone feels solid and feels much better to carry around in you pocket.
And please, typing sucks on the instinct. The iphone is SO much easier to type texts and etc. The whole instinct OS felt slow and unresponsive. What will having fast Internet matter if your whole OS is slow and takes you ages to type?

The iPhone wins with some competition, but the iPhone is still the winner

i havent had the iphone personally, but i have had the ipod touch, and the instinct is far better. I love the third party applications for the iphone, and how easy it is to access everything, but the instinct rapes compared to the iphone. with tv on the go, wifi almost everywhere, and no dropped calls, I have to say i love the instinct. It isnt as entertaining as the iphone because it doesnt get third party applications, but its faster on the web, downloading, and its much better software.

Ok so I bought the Instinct today
and Ive came across that it is not easy to text OH MY GOODNESS!! I always keep hitting the key that changes the keyboard and also I kept loosing signal and dropping my calls. I dont know if its because the way im holding the phone but its annoying to drop a call. The navagtion is fun, the quality of the tv is alright but could be better. Ive noticed theres no aim or msn messenger which my old phone the katana had. The camera has amazing pictures. The internet is super fast, i love the cool ringtones. The text is chat style which is cool also. Its a cool phone but it would be awesome if it was touch screen and could slide like the rant with the keyboard to make it easier to text

Ive been with sprint since 06 and I like it. One thing I dont like about the iphone is that it doesnt have picture or video messaging which is werid cuz most phones do. I dont have cable but I think its cool how instinct can provide Live TV. I got approved with At&t with no deposit so I was like hmm... Iphone ? But sprint has more coverage than att and I also hear about how with iphones they drop calls. Since I take alot of pictures and send I think I'll go with the Instinct all I would have to do is renew my 2 year contract and I already pay over 100 dollars a month so INSTINCT all the way for me :D I'll buy it tomorro

For those trying to decide: Sprint or AT&T and Instinct or iphone.

Carrier service

I've been a Sprint customer since they first started and did I have a lot of problems with dropped calls and poor coverage. I almost changed carriers in the early '00's. But Sprint convinced me to remain with them after they pitched me and offer, and because they stated they were adding more towers and expanding their coverage by more than 50%. They made the claim they would have the largest coverage in the country by the end of that year. Well I'm glad I stuck with them because since about 2004 I can probably count on one hand how many times I have had a dropped call or no service and I have travalled all over this nation. Many of my friends often complain about the service with AT&T, and other carriers as well - dropped calls, no service, static calls, etc. I have to believe that Sprint does have the best service out there. When my friends aren't able to get service in remote areas or even inside certain buildings I always do and boy does that frustrate them.

Instinct or iphone:

There is something that most of us never take into account when complaining about a carriers quality of service - the phone its self! Like the old saying goes, "you get what you pay for". I currently use the Instinct. I have several lines on my account and my Instinct phone gets service almost everywhere, even when my other cells don't. Some say the phone doesn't matter... it does. When I've traveled close the outer edges of the Sprint service area my Sanyo 8100 phone looses its signal while my Instinct is still picking up a strong signal. Same senerio for my friends with iphones. They loose their signal and I have no problem with my Instinct.

I don't own an iphone, but I have used it quite often. I traded my phone for an iphone with a friend and have to say the iphone didn't impress me. It really didn't give me any issues. And it wasn't and unbiased review. My freind, however had this to say about the trade;
The iphone has some limitations that the Instinct doesnt have. He aid that the Instinct didnt slow down or freeze up once. And as far as the speed of data transfer and internet speed, the Instinct is faster and had less lag time between application changes. But he was really impressed with the Instincts ability to be used as a modem. He almost didn't want to give the phone back.

Now don't get me wrong, the Instinct isn't flawless. There are some navigation issues that could use improvement, but my biggest gripe are the tiny little plastic covers that protect the data transfer port, the ear comm port and the mini sd card. They're a pain in the butt to open if you don't have long finger nails or a thin object to flip them open. The same thing goes for removing the mini sd card. The is almost impossible to release with out something tiny to push down with.

Anyway the bottom line is that Sprint is largest cell carrier company in the nation with great service and huge coverage. The Instinct is an awesome phone overall, but when compared to the iphone it outperforms it in may ways. Do your homework, and if you choose Sprint you won't be disappointed and if you get the Instinct...you'll have an awesome package!

instict really is better because it doesnt crash and if you drop it the screen doesnt scratch but the iphone does i accidentaly droped it and the screen had a huge mark in it and it didnt work anymore the iphone crashes about 99.8% of the time and at&t is a terrible network so many drooped call bad reception. iphone+a&tt= bad phone + terrible network = not worth your money. someone said that they're tired of the computer keyboard style. on the instinct you click a button and there you go you can change it to regular phone keyboard that simple and its just AS EASY TO GET IT BACK to regular computer keyboard style. Instinct vs. iphone= Instinct > iphone

Your rite, iphone doesnt get all the extra nice features that the instinct comes with plus, the instinct looks alot kooler! And i you wana talk about instinct copying iphones look, you should take a look at the lg prada and how the iphone copied tht. So if you apple fangirls wana take out ur white gloves and slap people go hed but iphone 3g will never be on instincts level.
ON A SCALE OF 1-10
INSTINCT-20
IPHONE 3G- 5.
SO THERE IT IS INSTINCT BLOWS IT OUT!!!!!!!!!!
AND CAN YOU GET LIVE TV, TURN BY TURN NAVIGATION, OR THE SUPER SPEEDS OF REV-DO REV. A ON AN IPHONE 3G?
THATS RITE DIDNT THINK SO!
SO THE INSTINCT WILL ALWAYS BE BETTER THAN THE "EXCUSE" FOR A NEW IPHONE!

Listen - it all comes down to this - INSTINCT - better plan, better hardware, better network, cost $$. IPHONE - apple loyalists love it, decent hardware, mediocre network, locked-down device, cost $$$.

So, you decide. If its worth the money, hassle, and APPLE dropping the price so people who bought into it early on can cry about having to spend SOOOOO much money on it and want a refund, go for it. Otherwise, the better platform is INSTINCT.

Okay, well I have heard all the comments, and admittedly I really like the iPhone for it's look and feel. But the instinct was an over all much better deal. Better plan, less expensive, upgradeable memory, 2 batteries included, just overall a better package. I travel all over the states and Sprint has excellent coverage. I don't get dropped calls and you just can't say the same for ATT. I can use my phone as modem and it's fast enough to play Warhammer over. Can't say the same for iPhone. I waited for 18 months since Apple put out their device for them to fix the connection and call relaiblility issues, still crap. And all the Apple fanbois talk up the JAILBROKEN phones. Sucks to void your warranty or even risk bricking your $500 phone (paid $129 for the instinct) to get it to be even worth the cash. And as for availability, the Japanese HAVE had this around for a bit, and Apple is just the new kid on the block. You get what you pay for and if you get the iPhone, you get $500.00 worth o crap. Your better off with an iPod then the iPhone.

I left Sprint for an Iphone 3G. I love the iphone but HATE the AT&T network. Sprint service was so much clearer and I rarely dropped a call, heck with AT&T I find myself trying to rush conversations to avoid a dropped call.

The AT&T network seems to always have echoes or static or fading in and out. Even on roaming Sprint calls were really clear to the point of people couldn't tell I was talking on a cell.

I know call quality depends on coverage and I find that AT&T coverage is a mixed bag of irregular crap. Even though I love my iphone I don't know how much more of this echoing, call dropping hell I can take.

Whenever I see an AT&T we are the best commercial I can't help but think that it is directed at their existing customers. The logic being that if AT&T is the best with all the echoing and dropped calls what are the other carriers like. Its like they are trying to scare their own customers from jumping carriers.

I am just as undecided on which phone to get as the next person. However, I will add my experience as it may help someone else make their decision. I have been with Sprint since they first started. Service is great on my palm Treo 700wx. After all the hype with the 1st gen. iPhone, I rushed out to get it. I wanted it so bad; I opted to pay the $175 early termination fee to Sprint. (The biggest mistake of my life). The iPhone itself was great but no one told me about the part that really matters...AT&T's service sucked big time. I couldn't hear on the phone, there was always an echo on the other end of the phone and too many dropped calls. I wanted to love the 1st gen. iPhone so much that I endured 31 days of it. After one dropped call too many I said forget it and went crying back to Sprint. Needless to say I could not return the iPhone and had to pay the early termination fee now to At&T. (was able to unload the phone to some poor sap though, albeit $100 less than what I paid for it) So here we are about a year later and there is the iPhone 3G and the Instinct. I have played around with both phones and there are pro's and con's with each one. The Instinct didn't impress me all that much with its layout and the iPhone 3G still has me drooling over it. What I can tell you, for the $69 plan from Sprint you get evening minutes starting at 7pm, unlim. text, email, etc. and a network to back it up. In order to get this from AT&T you will have to fork over roughly $99 per month as your nights start at 9pm (additional $8.99 to start at 7pm) and you have to pay $20 for unlimited text msgs. So that is an extra $360 a year to own the iPhone. Something to consider in this economy. Some may say that the choice is clear, but that is just point. The iPhone is such a great and simple device to use. It has a lot of neat applications and it is difficult to put down, however not sure if the call quality on AT&T's network has improved. On the other hand since I need my phone to make and keep calls when I pick it up, my loyalty remains with Sprint. I hope this has helped some of you out there. I want to believe that Sprint will improve on the next generation Instinct, but not sure how long I can wait.

I've owned the Instinct for 3 months. It's great phone and the Sprint Everything plan is even better. I'm impressed with all the features except for the GPS which i would give a "C" because of loosing signal and the inability to manage addresses. Though I don't own the IPhone, but recently purchased the IPod Touch 2G and very impressed with the technology and applications. I'm very disappointed with Sprint Instinct's lack of available applications in this busy technology world. I've always gone with Sprint for its network, but the lack of applications may sway me to the IPhone once my contract is up. A Note about this Antispam code......very buggy

To my knowledge it's new technology and it's going to be fast for now until something new comes around. I'm not for the ip phone or the instinct I have one of each and I enjoy them both equally so it is all based on someone's preference.

So If you don't think you would like either, then it's simple don't buy them, if you like the instinct over the ip phone, jump in and get it, but bickering about who's got a bigger ***k and posting dumb comments is not really getting you the answers you are looking for.

The iPhone is a status object.
While we're talking about it here it seems dumb to buy a status object but it works rather differently in real life.

If you're trying to hit on someone and you're holding a Instinct, you're going to wish that Instinct was a iPhone instead.

iPhone wins.

It is not what you can do with a phone but how you do it. I have had crappy phones that were so hard to use that I just gave up on these smart phones. True that they had lot of feature but it was damn hard to get something done. You move to a different model, you have to start all over again. The beauty of iPhone is that I didn't even look at the manual and I am able to use it easily and can get things done in two or three clicks. I like "Don't make me think approach" I don't have to think hard to figure out how to use a phone. I just like clicking intuitively. iPhone rocks.

After working for At&t and owning both the original and 3g iphones (COU and personal use) and after having purchased the instinct, I would have to honestly say that the Instinct is a better buy. This is not to say that one is superior to the other in terms of functionality as they both have ups and downs in their software and service. But in an overall brawl the instinct wins. First of all, UMTS (with the HSDPA overlay) is something that is "few and far between." I couldnt even get it at my store. Also, the iphone is lacking in what I would say are essential areas. If you work for a cell company you will understand that hardware is ultimately more important than software. Having removable batteries and memory is a necessity that you lose when you go apple. Thus proprietary B.S. Also, since at&t support is not allowed to handle the iphone, you have to deal with the ever so outsourced apple, a pain in the neck. I haggled my instinct down to the prime price of $80, but even at its current price in the store, it is a better deal. As far as the TV and Music and other bells and whistles go, it really doesn't matter because both come with headphones, memory (although the instinct only comes with 2gig) and enough extra junk to keep any geek swamped with useless applications until they can upgrade again to the next "over powered/ consolidated device."

These APPLE WH*RES make me SICK. Face it....they're gonna cry and whine about ANY cellphone with touch screen.....saying its an iphone knock-off when in reality if you go to Japan, Samsung has had this kind of technology for ages and Apple just bought it to the US 1st. Get off Apples nuts.....Instinct Wins!!

EVDO beats out UMTS? You people DO realise that UMTS with the HSDPA overlay is capable of 7.2Mbps. Can EVDO pull off even half that? If AT&T tuned their network properly (the way some European providers have done), they'd blow Sprint and Verizon away with the performance.

iPhone is the king and all those secondary phones are just phones. The other thing is Samsung instinct it is just a different smartphone that can compete with iPhone. I love the way they made the iPhone and I love even more the way they made Instinct.

Instinct rips off iPhone! it's just so much better!!! I love my instinct and would never change it for any other phone, especially the iPhone cause i hate Apple.

I got the instinct and it is worth every penny...the comparison to the iphone is unnecessary because no one who has either should complain. These phones are amazing. The instict is a great device, no doubt about it.

This Goes out to Shawn. You don't see how Samsung has Made like a lot of people say a Cheap Nockoff. iPhone is the original, Instinct is trying to Kill the Jaw Dropping original. I Gota edmit it's great, I want one, but I would rather go get inline and get my iPhone. It's very east to use. The only reason I want instinct is because I want mobile TV. iPhone, because I love My iPod. As for Molly, You A F"@king B$/ch. You need to go f$&k your self. iPhone wins No contest.

I just posted this Blog on my iPhone 3G. I just read all of your Reviews on my iPhone.
The Question is what can you do to say about that. Some of you are Blind. Apple won't do alot of the things that other phone companies do to be the first one to have a 7mp camera can be dumb. Or to add video and zooming capability on your 2mp camera can also suck. Apple did not make iPhone to kill other phones, the made a product they wanted and Needed. I like the instinct it (sounds ) friken sweet. But after all the reviews, iPhone is quality. Mobile TV is great, and if apple added that it would be a killer. But all apple wants to do is ovcourse make money, and create a better world.
I love my iPhone, you should get a quality phone not a murdering phone.

Most people on here have it backwards. Apple actually ripped off Samsung. I have many colleagues in Korea and the Instinct technology has been around for a couple of years in Asia and Europe. The US is very far behind the rest of the world when it comes to cell phones. Apple went to Korea and took almost all of the Iphone technology directly from Samsung. Samsung is truly an innovator, they just didn't get into the US market until recently. Instinct is a much better phone hands down. The reason the Iphone is sold out is because most Americans are "sheep". Sheep follow what other sheep do. Anyone that bases their opinion of the 2 phones on which one is in greater demand is a sheep.

i think the instinkt kills the iphone because it has more tech stuff than the iphone. Its also bigger for bigger stuff!!

The instinct is a cheap,knock-off, wannnabe. How come I can go pick up an instinct anywhere right now, but the iphone 3g is sold out everywhere. Its not what the phones do, its how smoothly apple does it and choppy instinct does it. Maybe Samsung should try to do a blackberry copy, maybe have better luck.

like the guys b4 said, iPhone touch screen feels better, real and faster osx, u are able to create apps, and by the way if there's a software app that's not on the iPhone ; and the instiNk has it, u can either create it and sell it or buy it, all from the comfort of ur iPhone, LOL . Let's face it, iPhone is the only apple product I have, and I have hella fun wit the first version jailbroken. Their still is no phone out there that can beat the iPhone, and a whole lotta ya's scared to go on the apple website to get the real specs about the 3g. I bet when the next big cell app comes out, all I have to do is update, and u guys have to buy a whole new phone. P.s small screens sucks

Ok, currently the instinct has more to offer then the iphone, no two ways about it. Second the iphone 3G will only has what instinct has, no more, no less. Most people who fight for the Iphone will mostly only fight for it because they have it and wish to continue the delusion it is the best phone ever, and the same is for the people with the instinct. Now when the instinct has Windows 6.1 on it, it will be better then the Iphone. It will have all more to offer and still will cost less. The iPhone was good but it was only the start, soon the iPhone will be the current flip phone.

For Vinman, when you purchased the Instinct or any Sprint Device you have 30 days to bring it back if you are not happy. If you are truly dissatisfied take it back to the store for a refund or another option.

Voice Control and super-fast internet speed makes the Instinct your winner.
Add to that, Sprint service is far better than AT&T in the City.

Apples and Oranges people. Why the hostility? Some think one is better than the other, thats why we have choices. Each device has something to offer that the other doesn't and each one lack where the other succeeds. There is no perfect phone and all this tension only fuels the corporate giants greed to divide us from our money. I am a windows man, so I chose the WM devices (like my Mogul), whereas my wife, loves the eye candy, and entertainment of the iPhone.

WOW it is amazing how everyone says the Iphone is better then the Instinct. So what will Iphone user have to say when the Instinct with window 6.1 comes out in December? Or what will they say when the HTC Touch Pro release? 3g is great for Iphone user because they are used to having slow internet. The instinct is faster, and will become even faster when Wimax comes outs. Good luck Iphone. Or better yet catch up.

"For the fact that the Instinct is not an apple product, I have purchased it! I cannot stand any Apple product! it's all junk and for people who just want to be different. The instinct is a much better product by comparison and use. Anytime that I see that apple symbol with the bite taken out of it, I feel like bashing the item into pieces. Another thing... I did not have to camp out overnight to purchase a better product...freaks!"

I don't get this irrational attachment or antipathy towards Apple. Why do you not want to buy it just because it's from Apple? You're not making any statement. I certainly don't fit into your stereotype. You should just get the product that fits you best.

"the iphone is the legit device"... So you're going to make your purchase decision, based on who made the first one?

doesn't make any sense

You apple fanboys make me sick. Sure the iphone may have all those "sweet extra features" i'm sure you'll probably never even use, but the instinct is far better then just a copy of the iphone. I think the "review" we all read was a few words short of a good review, and more of a brief update of the iphones pricing and release date that we all already knew! Iphone would be great, but apple is foolish for keeping their contract with ATT for the 3G, ATT has completely ruined the iphone with thier rediculus pricing and terms. Sprint offers more options for less pricing. I mean come on, ATT's plan doesnt come with texting included, what the heck! Instinct vs. Iphone is a close match, but when it comes to who provides their service, sprint wins. Sprint offers far better data capabilities, for a much better price IE stream TV, comes with texting, music access even on non wifi internet, the list goes on. Iphone is undoubtedly amazing, But the instinct will be a great competitor.

Well - I have the New instinct--it really rocks for sure --to bad the Sprint Network "Sucks Big Kahuna" The instinct is stereo Bluetooth but the speaker volume is very poor and hard to hear in moderately loud atmospheres' for sure. I guess since I signed a 2 year --I'm stuck for a while--would rather go back to my Nextel tho.

Well for someone that has no loyalty, the Instinct has won me over. The new iphone is getting shredded in the reviews and apparently is going to be a huge flop. Think the instinct will be better value than both iphones from the sounds of it. Awards don't lie.

This is a review? Are you kidding? This is not even a briefing lol! The instinct is a knock-off attempt at cloning the iPhone. The instinct, much like other qwerty board phones has some "COOL" features but that's it- NOTHING GROUND BREAKING.

As Garavto metioned, it did not come out sooner because SamSung needed an example to run with, which means it's not a truly innovative device.

EVDO-REV yada yada... Yes it's faster than 3G. Yippie. But it's not a "OMG, i'm going to lose my sleep over it" 3G is near WiFi speed and test prove this.

Come to terms with this; The iPhone is destroys the Instinct on so many levels. The operating system is OSX (more powerful, more stable). The touchscreen feels 10x's better than anything on the market today. The flow of the GUI is empirical. And now, hold your breath, the iPhone has third party apps! The fact that they need to be approved by Apple before release, is further proof of Apple's dedication to maintaining the iPhone's stability and performance. Apple refuses to let any tom-dick-and-harry developer make apps for it's iPhone. We all know the problems that kind of thinking has caused WinMobile devices.

Oh yeah, and uh.... now the iPhone is considered a PLATFORM. Developers are creating applications for the iPhone that could not dream of creating for any other cell phone in the world. Go to apple and check out the keynote address and get the real info.

Well, garavato.. When designing a full touch screen interface, what shape would you expect? Good examples are TV, although most TV have same looking interface they are comparablly different!!! Just because the iPhone have the interface of a rectangle doesn't mean the instinct can't, there aren't many shapes to choose from... Beside the shape of the phone, the iphone and instinct are different in many ways..

the iPhone is the legit device, the instinct is just a replica, why didn't samsung come out with this device last year? because they needed to copy somebody like apple, thats why..
» posted by: Cicada / Jun 10, 2008 12:34 PM
sorry; when data is a big thing with the iphone, EVDO still beats out 3G. not to mention the instinct has EVDO rev. A which is twice as fast as regular EVDO.

and then when wimax comes...well...game OVER.

Don't judge a phone by its cover.. FACE IT-The iphone doesn't have much to offer besides sleekiness and multitouch.. On the other hand the Instinct are stuffed with new technologies+ all that the iphones got to offer.. Not to mention the better pricing and that it won the 2008 CTIA award!!!
