Below we have compared five shower systems from the trusted manufacturers Moen, Grohe, American Standart, and Delta. We've chosen the most trusted manufacturers for the last three years, from 2020 upto 2023, who are still the market leaders in producing shower systems.

How Shower Systems Differ

Shower systems differ by type of showerhead, installation method, the material used, and design. By installation type, showers are categorized into wall-mounted and ceiling-mounted, with the former being the most common option.

Consider the material used in a shower system. While plastic units are cheaper and more lightweight, metal shower systems are more reliable, long-lasting, and efficient. For instance, the GROHE Retro-Fit Euphoria Shower System, produced by a trusted German manufacturer of sanitary fittings, is made with metal and a chrome finish.

In addition to being sturdy and well-made, this shower system is multi-functional. The showerhead has 3-spray functions: a spray pattern for skin stimulation, a pulsating spray pattern for massage, and a water-saving smart pattern. You can choose between different water flow options using the built-in diverter.

Another distinction between various shower systems lies in the design.

Models like the Delta Linden Dual-Function Tub and Shower Trim Kit come with a 2-in-1 hand shower which can also be used as a showerhead. The Delta Linden hand shower offers 4 spray settings and is attached to a stretchable metal hose.

The other type is a shower system that includes both a showerhead and a hand shower. For instance, the American Standard Spectra Versa System comes with an 11-inch rain showerhead and a 4-function hand shower, which can be used alone or together. The kit also contains a 15-inch shower arm and a 69-inch metal hose.

While being heavy enough, this wall-mounted shower system is easy to adhere to the existing tile. You can use adhesive tape or screws included in the purchase.

Thermostatic Shower System

A shower system with a Thermostatic mixer like GROHE Euphoria 310 CoolTouch Thermostatic Shower System is the most expensive model on our list.

What distinguishes the Thermostatic shower? You can set your preferred water temperature once and never touch it again. Its smart TurboStat reaches desired water temperature in seconds and keeps it constant for safety regardless of changes in water pressure. Even when fluctuations in water pressure occur, you’ll never experience a sudden icy blast or scalding heat.

This GROHE Euphoria model is adapted for the US plumbing system, the body of this mixer has an inscription mark 100°F/38°C.

Panel shower systems

A special case is a panel shower system. In addition to a showerhead and a hand shower, this type comes with body sprays mounted on the vertical panel. An excellent example of this type is the Pulse Aloha Shower Spa made with brushed stainless steel and chrome hardware.

This product features an 8-inch showerhead, a convenient hand shower with 5 functions, and 2 pulsating body spray jets with adjustable positioning. A stainless steel hose is 59 inches in length, while a brass diverter allows you to easily switch between these three functions.

Rain shower

If you want a rainfall shower you may choose between a sophisticated wall-mounted matte black Delta Rain Shower System with TempAssure thermostatic valve that keeps water temperature within a safe +/-3Degrees F, protecting you from sudden changes in hot or cold water pressure, or a budget-friendly SR SUN RISE Rainfall System that will cost you less then $200.

There are also ceiling-mounted models like Grohe Tempesta 10" Rain Shower Head in square or rectangular shapes, in chrome or brushed nickel color which mimics a warm soft summer rain.

Budget Showers

A good example of a budget-friendly and easy-to-install wall-mounted model is the Moen Engage Handheld Shower with a magnetic attachment.

The unit features a showerhead with a diameter of 5.5 inches and various spray options. This shower system has a flow rate of 2.5 gallons per minute and maintains decent pressure.

Jenna G: "Installing Delta In2ition 2-in-1 Dual Shower was very easy. We simply removed our existing shower head and just screwed in this one. It took no time at all. Once it was up though, I really loved the look of it. It's just modern and sleek. The stainless steel goes well with our bathroom. It's a look that we would continue on with if we do more to our bathroom updating. So I just really like that it fits in well with what our taste is. Aside from the look I also like the unique features that it offers. The Delta in2ition shower is a two-in-one shower system. It features a shower head and a handheld shower in one. This model features a variable spray hand shower so it lets us choose from a more relaxing, gentle spray to a stronger spray. And I really like this because depending on my mood or what time of day I've had, I appreciate having that option.

Probably one of my favorite features, though is the fact that there's the removable hand shower. Having three little ones I like it when shower time is made easier and our kids love to take a shower. So having this removable hand shower with the flexible 60-inch hose makes it very convenient and easy to shower our kids, clean them off, even clean the shower. Or it would be great too if you had a dog that you had to bathe as well. It comes off and goes back in very easily. So just very convenient and quick to use. Overall in the time, we've used it, we really like everything about it. It seems like a great multitasking tool for busy moms and families and I'm excited to use it more."

Ireviewthings: "My daughter for the last few weeks has been asking for a shower her height where I kind of pull off the shower and kind of hold it above her. So when I saw American Standard Spectra Versa as something you take advantage of I went ahead and went with it. This is a no-drill optional installation. On my other showers, I had to drill into the tile. This has some fairly strong 3m adhesive so I don't have to do that. So being able to do this without drilling absolutely fantastic. I'm gonna try it first without the drilling and see how well it stands up and if it holds.

All in all, as far as operation goes, it's super easy. That's one of the reasons I wanted to put this into the kids side. Once everything's running one button controls everything. So you don't have to worry about turning a dial or reaching up and grabbing anything in particular. And a difference between what came with this and the other models I have is none of them actually came with the handheld spray or the showerhead up top. Now both of these have a wide range of settings. Fairly good, easy to use so again it's going to give me kind of the range that I'm looking for.

Now I'm not holding a shower up for my daughter she's able to do that herself. So all in all great product. The installation was super easy. The instructions were super nice. So again, American Standard shower overall is fantastic we're happy, and I highly recommend it."
