Nokia N95 for North America: get it September for $699
As we found in our hands-on, this particular variant of the S60 superphone gets tweaked just a bit from the original -- though not as much as the bigger-screened N95 8GB -- offering a redesigned, recessed camera lens (sans protective cover), twice the RAM, dimpled music control keys, and re-upped battery capacity. Nokia claims this very special version of the N95 was made in part because it's been "extremely pleased" with response to the European N95 in these parts -- so to everyone with an N95 in your pocket right now, thanks! As we mentioned, grab it starting next month through a variety of online retailers plus Nokia's flagship stores in New York and Chicago for \$699.

Tilera debuts its sixty-four core processor, melts faces
GadgetsChipmaker Tilera, clearly bored with the peasant-like core counts of two or four as offered by such pedestrian competition like Intel and AMD, has decided to turn the game up a notch with their latest diabolical creation: the 64-core processor. That's right folks, Tilera's TILE64 is a new RISC CPU aimed at integrated systems like routers, switches, video conferencing, and set-top boxes that can best Intel's finest by a factor of 30, and casually rocks a bandwidth of something like 32TB per second.

Apple TV OS loosed into the wilds
Of course, the 200MB Apple TV OS image is likely locked to Apple TV hardware and runs on Intel procs only, but these are just minor annoyances as we've seen before. Given its mach kernel and BSD origins, it won't be long before Apple TV becomes the homebrew happy-hacking platform of choice.

Power your PSP with a trio of AAA batteries
Feb 5th 2007 12:02AM by Darren MurphFiled under: GamingFor those of you who just can't get enough playtime with your ever lovin' PlayStation Portable, and have a knack for running low on juice while not even remotely close to an AC outlet or recharging venue, here's a mod that can offer you some battery powered backup for your handheld Sony. Not at all for the faint of heart or the novices in the house, this battery hack joins the incredibly long list of hackerations that we've seen come the PSP's way, and while it takes a bit more effort than just picking up the X2, we're sure the bragging rights alone make it worthwhile.

The Wal-Mart $299 HD DVD player on the way
How much? A magical \$299, that's how much -- \$100 less than the cheapest available HD DVD rig (Toshiba's A2) and half of Sony's \$600 BDP-S300 Blu-ray Disc player. It's not clear when we'll see the first units on Wal-Mart shelves, only that the final shipment from the order is expected before 2008 is over.
