How many green boats do you know? This high profile boat is a real stunner. What makes it unique is that it has been constructed from discarded plastic bottles. Does it sound unbelievable? But it is real. Called Plastiki, this ecologically friendly boat consists of 12 500 plastic bottles.This seems to be a very interesting transportation, but still it is under construction. This amazing catamaran is fully recyclable and comes with bottles containing CO2 and fixed to pontoons. These pontoons are fastened to a solid plastic tube being mounted with no glue or resin.
The Plastiki boat features 2 liter plastic boats making it floatable while its hull is constructed from SRPET, standing for self reinforcing polyethylene terephthalate. This eco-friendly boat has nice looks and weighs 9 tons not counting the crew weight which is expected to be 6 people. The boat has 60 foot and is going to be recycled.
Plastiki ecological expedition is scheduled to be in August starting from San Francisco to Sydney. The Adventure Ecology founder David de Rothschild gets prepared to navigate this intelligent floating boat in the direction of Pacific Ocean. With new recycled materials to come, it is now the time to realize how important eco-sailing is as well as how we can have a good influence on our ever changing climate.
