Newcomer among OLED gadgets - new Sony Walkman with 3" OLED touchscreen

Dec 12, 2008
Sony Walkman with 3Great news, OLED technology is beating LCD displays, because more and more electronic gadgets with OLED displays are flow into the market. And observe that not necessarily TVs. Of course, we all remember the first organic panel out there - Sony XEL-1 OLED HDTV, but there are a lot more OLED gadgets, like mobile phones, notebooks and, clearly, portable media players. There is Cowon S9 Curve – an awesome media player with AMOLED touchscreen and now it seems to have earned a rival. Sony Walkman will be the next one to roll out an OLED touchscreen. Not in near future unfortuatly, but it is still good to know as fact that there is such kind of concept.

Despite that Sony Walkman isn't nearly on the stage of preproduction model and there are only blueprints of its design on the web, we can name some features of the media player. First of all, Walkman will have a drag and drop touchscreen, three inch WQVGA OLED display. Here are some of the advantages of this technology: low energy consumption, unsurpassed response time, high brightness, deep, vivid colors and 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Right underneath its screen, the new Walkman has from 16 GB to 32 GB, FM radio tuner and S-Master digital amplifier with digital noise canceling and a loudspeaker on a side panel somewhere.

When it will come to turning the new Sony Walkman on, it will look like previous models, at least a bit, nevertheless, it will be one the most progressive media players. Audio files of MP3, WMA, AAC and PCM codec will surely be supported and we cross our fingers for FLAC and other lossless formats also. Walkman video playback consists of MPEG-4, WMV and H.264 (AVC) codec, which stands for Blu-Ray disks. Thanks to WiFi network support, Sony Walkman is about to provide tons of features via the Internet, like watching reels on YouTube, purchasing content on Amazon, Crackle video feed subscription and audio podcasts. Features of the Walkman's web browser are yet unknown, but we will surely find out more, when the presentation time comes in '09.
