HTC 1 offers less to give you so much more
When we compared iPhone 4 with HTC EVO 4G we have marked for a couple of times that most owners of both smartphones and of the other as well might never get to the bottom of device’s functionality. Come to think of it, there are no more than, say, ten absolutely must-have features on both hardware and software sides and all the rest is never used. However, despite the fact that there aren’t too many commonly popular features, those that are commonly popular do require some serious hardware. I’ll give you an example: a thing as simple as browsing should preferably come with a big touchscreen and a fast processor. So the problem is that buying a cheaper smartphone what you end up is not tangibly limited functionality but poorer overall functionality. The problem that was solved by a young designer Andrew Kim and his HTC 1 concept.

AgBot - a small gardener and a big guard
Every now and then there appear gadgets that carry some new technologies but are of a very little use or are simply funny and pathetic. Recently, probably one of above named has been leaked in Louisiana State University – AgBot robot. They have determined AgBot as a surveillance gadget but it has some additional features that have nothing to do with surveillance. Anyway, as long as students are developing some interesting technological devices, we are going to take a look at them and seize their perspectives. So here it comes, AgBot from Louisiana State University.

Intel works on 48-core processors, shares first results
Futuristic 48-core design of Intel’s latest processor concept may sound like company got involved into an arms race with AMD, especially since Intel Xeon 7500 designed for servers has 8 cores versus Opteron 6100’s 12 cores from AMD. But as it appears, limited edition of 48-core processors has come into this world only as a guinea pig and will most likely be sacrificed in the name of results it will achieve in the hands of lucky researches when they get it in late Q2.

IBM and Fujifilm have developed a 35TB magnetic tape
History of modern automobile industry teaches us that at some point there was a three-way crossroad objectifying three possible ways of further evolution. Back then it was uncertain what propelling power will by employed: petrol, steam or electricity. What's more, all three concepts were already up and running in different regions. The reason why I bring this up is what IBM and Fujifilm have recently unveiled. That is the next iteration of their linear magnetic tape storage device development that has been going strong since year 2006 when IBM and Fujifilm presented an 8TB magnetic tape cartridge. This time though it has 35TB of storage capacity.

Elpida Memory works on 2-Gigabit DDR2 RAM for mobile devices
Computer science was always in the front rows of science fields that achieve fastest growing speeds. But it seems to me that this days computing on the go outpaces computing on the couch. Every now and then you can stumble on a press release that says that someone cut processing time here and double bandwidth there. And now there is Elpida Memory – the company that made its name designing memory modules for all types of computers out there. Spiky Frankfurt Motor Show BMW Lovos concept
Frankfurt Motor show of current year has been said to draw an unpredicted attention to fast luxurious and expensive cars. Few have thought about that because of the hard times we seem to be passing successfully. Anyway, here’s what drew our attention: BMW’s second since the EfficientDynamics concept and one of the utmost revisions of car design – the Lovos concept. Ecology remedying Seedbomb
The idea of making planting easier and even environmentally friendlier is not new. The recent machines from MID students we have seen not long ago is great for plant care, but it is pretty big and it can not actually be used outdoors and on areas as big as fields. There is however an oppositely different gadget. Seedbomb is a designer’s concept for bringing huge areas of dead land back to life. We can’t seriously speak about its pros and cons because we haven’t yet heard it is going to be used somewhere, but we can imagine, right?

Linovo upgrades ThinkCentre lineup with M58e and A58 models
Today’s big announcement goes to Lenovo and their remastered ThinkCentre M58e and A58. Both of them Lenovo is presenting as reasonably priced enterprise and home solutions which will be best for the hard economic times. Their price tags are actually way more humble than their latest till now gadget. I’m speaking of course about Lenovo’s and Microsoft’s collaboration child – the Ultimate Academic PC that is 600 dollars higher at the entrance point. The specs are not mind-blowing, but if you check some boxes in the invoice, they will give out 1TB HDD, 4GB RAM and Blu-Ray burner. Sales start in early April.

iPhone 4G dreamed in the wild
Since the public has come down after speculating on the iPad followed by its announcement, it is time we think remember the next gen iPhone 4G and show you some of the latest mock-ups on it. Not just that they appear in an unprogressive fashion, but that this particular one found accidentally on the Web runs pretty close to what everyone is expecting. It gives suggestions on a front camera, microSD expansion slot which will never be there but no matter, bright and happy color schemes. iPhone 4G already has a rather straight forward “must have” hardware and feature list. But from the design point of view, how could it evolve? Even free-minded sketches show no paths of alternative. Whether it is good or bad for the iPhone is quite a question for the ages, so have your say on future of iPhone's design in comments.
