New Motorola QWERTY slider released - Motorola Hint QA30

Not so long ago we wrote about new unannounced yet smartphone from Nokia with QWERTY keyboard. Motorola tried to not fall behind its competitor, and officially announced its own QWERTY slider, named Motorola Hint QA30. After all rumors in the past several days, Motorola finally presented its new phone, which is made with text message lovers in mind. Taking in consideration, that Motorola rarely releases something new nowadays, it doubles the interest to its new product.

Phones with QWERTY keyboard have their own piece of market. Modern times developed new type of communication - via text messages and instant messaging applications. It is extremely uncomfortable to type a long message on usual phone keypad, and while many people can live with it, someone can't. This is the audience for QWERTY keyboard enabled phones, like this one. Motorola Hint QA30 is a CDMA cell phone that is a first Motorola slider with full QWERTY keyboard. It has a full set of modern multimedia functions, like QVGA 2.5" display, video and audio playback (list of

supported formats include MIDI, MP3, AAC, AAC+, AAC+ Enhanced, WMA v9 for audio and H.263, MPEG4, WMV v9 for video), microSDHC support up to 8 GB, Bluetooth Stereo, 2 megapixel camera with video recording, and 3.5 headphone jack for true music lovers. Internet functions are also present, and they are greatly done - fully featured HTML browser, integrated E-Mail and IM functions (which take full benefits from QWERTY keyboard - text input is greatly faster than on standard phone keypad). 128 MB of RAM gives great possibilities for multitasking; 256 MB of built-in memory leave plenty of space even if you forgot your card at home. Las, but not least - this model has aGPS support, so if carrier supports this function users will be able to track their position on the map.

Battery life is also quite impressive for a 940 mAh battery - up to 4.5 hours in talking mode and up to 15 days in standby. Phone is quite thick (because of sliding keyboard), but overall its size is not huge, so it will fit in almost every pocket: 82 x 61,6 x 17 mm, 120g weight.

This interesting novelty from Motorola will be released in stores in November 28 in USA, no information about other countries yet. Unfortunately, this is not a smartphone, but is has an impressive set of features for a usual phone and it will be popular amongst young and active people, who like to send text messages and listen music.

I HATE THIS PHONE!!!!!!!!! had the phone for 3 months. front buttons stoped working after 2 months. sent in for repair. it broke again the same day i picked it up from repair. now the buttons that change the volume on the side dont work. horrible reception. dropped calls. battery cover is a bad design. it is thin and flimsy it is hard to get on properly. DONT BUY THIS PHONE!!!!!!!

» posted by: Lilli Csuk / Jul 11, 2010 10:39 PM: Im on my third motorola hint, when you set it to auto delete your messages, it is supposed to auto delete your messages, instead it only does that to the inbox leaving you with a lot of messages in your out box, if you ever get more then 1700 ish messages in your out box it starts to become crappy and once you pass about 1900 you cant delete them anymore you have to either get a new phone or reset it to factory settings.
2) it turns off randomly even when nothing is wrong with it
3)it has a very very crappy battery, it doesnt hold a charge and it has no battery save mode
4)i have the brightness set all the way down and i find it still too bright, you cant turn the back light on the keyboard off

i do really like the fact that its durrable, i have dropped it a fair bit and it has never had any issues afterwards.

Then it wouldn't let me looks at my texts. After that it would go all white and I couldn't see the screen except for white. Then when I went to one certain spot it would just turn off completly!!! Then about three days ago it would turn off when I would slid it up and when I tried to turn it back on it wouldn't come on!!! This phone has given me sooo many probmles going to get a new phone before I through this one at the wall!!

This is actually the second Hint I've had since last November though. The last one I had the charger port on the phone stopped working (saying "unauthorized charger"). Luckily this was in the first 30 days so I got a new one. But this new one, after only three months, has the same problem.

(THE FLAWS)
I'm going to start with the flaws... There are a few, The first one is wwhen your doing something on it too fast, like scrolling through something or if your texting and you get a message and your react to fast it will restart it's self, Also whenyour on the phone and you get a text mesage and you wanna read/reply too it sometimes it's like a dial up computer.... REALLY SLOW, and sometimes the message will not send when your on the phone and you have too wait too get off the phone to get it too send. Nobody has really said this on here, but the moto hint DOES have a somewhat of a texting delay, Not as bad as the moto VEGAS though.. Thank god.

(THE GOOD THINGS)
The picture editing option thid phone has buit into it is amazing, I didn't know it had it until a few weeks ago and I fell in love with it as soon as I started using it, You can flip pics around, change the color, brightness, crop them, add a text too the pic change the color and font of the text, and a buch of stuff like that. The sound is very clear on it, But if you like rap and the song has alot of bass it doesn't do awful well on that, other than that good sound system. It does have a texting signature, Unlike the razor, krazor, and rocker. Very stylish phone it has like circles on it and red and black is also a good color for the phone. It doesn't really drop calls as muchas other phones do.

(THE KEYBOARD!!)

Okay I've heard people say alot of bad things about the keyboard, it was the main reason I wasn't going to get the phone but once I got too US CELL and started playing with it I was like hey it's not so bad, I can get use too it. And I did, It didn't take that long either.

(OVER ALL)

It all depends what your looking for in a phone, I havnt seen a phone yet that hasn't had some sort of flaw, I'm not recomending the phone nor am I NOT recommending I'm just shareing my experiance with then moto hint... But although It has flaws, I love it. But only because It's what I want in a phone.

I had this phone now since October (3 months) and no problems. The keys are small for texting but not a big deal for me... small fingers. Would not recommend this phone for men... keys are too small. I dropped it once and the battery popped out... put it in and it was good as gold. By far it is the best phone I have owned.

It's actually my second HINT cause i took the first in and asked why i couldnt send messages and they said every one of these phones have this problem and they have a free replacement program and they give you a new HINT. i was ticked. this one is worse. when i got it the screen was scratched already and the plastic cover over the speaker is not fully connected. not to mention it wont even slide up sometimes. i have to set it down for 5-10-15 minutes and it'll finally slide again. not to mention it turns off at least three or four times a day. i've dropped it once... but caught it on my shoes then it slid to the floor. it randomly hangs up on people not saying dropping calls or cause i have no service it just acts like i wasnt even on the phone. i have owned 4 phones since i was 12 i am now 16. 3 of which motorola all 3 have had some sort of major problems.. my first one, a samsung. worked flawless. needless to say. im done with motorola phones

Whenever you get an incoming text message it will freeze for about 5 seconds, even if you are in the middle of doing something else. Sometimes the outgoing texts messages don't send, or they don't send until of couple hours to days later. It's so annoying! My keyboard sometimes will not work and I will have to shut my phone off and turn it back on to make it work again. The camera often says "unable to capture image". I don't think this is a very reliable phone, wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

It restarts on its own & the soft keys may go out. Today 11/12/09 my soft keys went out & started back working. I would not recommend this phone to anyone. Metropcs is a good company but the motorola hint is not a good phone...

But now the top buttons, like the call and the arrow keys wont work, everything on the top wont work except the end button and i dont know what to do. I get text messages late and it says i have several when i dont have any, its soo messed up. I dont recommend this phone to anyone.

oh, and my friend has had this phone for about 4-5 months and it acted it up the first month she got it, they replaced it and now its completely fine.
she has no problems with it.

And i've been hearing alot about speed dial. Once you set the people up as a number, you have to HOLD the number you want down, untill it starts calling.

All in all. I lovee it.=)

» posted by: Christine / Sep 09, 2009 09:29 AM: i have had the hint for 7 months now. and YES i will admit it has it's little problems which on a bad day, really annoys me, [like some text messages getting jammed up and my phone telling me i have 2 or 3 messages when i only had one, and having to wait an unspecified amount of time, sometimes almost 3 weeks to get them] but overall i love this phone, it may over exagerate how much talk/standby time it has but i [almost always] keep the charger handy so that my phone does not die constantly, (i talk and text WAY too much...sometimes i am on it for up to 10 hours out of the day doing something) it is good to only let it die only once every few weeks, but i did have a problem last month with it not wanting to come back on after it died (and i had to plug it in W/O the battery in it for it to work again) but overall i absolutey love my phone. it may not be the one for you but it is the one for me :)

one of my friends has this phone and she's also on her 5th. her back comes off easily and the battery falls out all the time. hers also rebooted itself. she had the problem of it turning the volume up when it was sitting on a table. on a couple of them, the front buttons stopped working...
overall i think this is the worst phone ever..

i use to be so excited for it, but now im going to switch to a diffrent phone.

Sometimes it just randomly turned off as well. I think the Hint is a bit boxy for my taste, but I can't afford a smartphone and HATE the Banter. It is a sucky-er version of the scoop.

The Hint is very sleek and pocket friendly. 2 megapixel camera. Big screen, nice texting phone (of course I have tiny fingers since i am only 4 '9. ) Pretty cool. I like all of the features. Setup of phone is slightly like the blackberry.
I would definatly get it! :0)

The charger stop working and when I got a new charger it would turn off and on and not charge up and do the same thing if I took the battery out of the phone. This phone is a piece of shit.

this one shuts off on me randomly.
and the messaging is messed up.
the bluetooth hardly ever works and my ringtones dont work anymore. other than that its nice. its just slow.

I'm still trying o figure it out becaus I've only had it a few months......this phone has a good camra......texting and calling is easy.... it has great sound,a bright screen,and alot of cool features.....it has bluetooth....for some things like Google and email you will have to have extra added to your phone....I have not used the SD card but I do no that to get some songs added to your phone I also heard it may mess up your so if you get this it might be a risk .....speed dail is alittel hard to figure out....voice comands are very sensitive....if you are not careful the phon will shut off by its self and sometimes durring calls will freeze up......this phone is my first cell phone and so far I LOVE IT......THIS IS A MUST HAVE PHONE EVEN WITH ITS FEW GLITCHES....

And when I was at the store to get this one today they told me motorola had stopped production of it because so many of the phones are defective.. and they arent sure if or when production will start again.. this phone, on paper, is the BEST phone in the world, greater than any blackberry you'll ever find. but don't let the 100s of amazing features fool you, if you buy this, you will wish you hadn't.

i'm switching back to my motoRAZR as soon as i can find a ride to the store.

After a few days it would not save pics unless I turned the phone off and and back on ...and took a pic. Then their was an inner starburst on the screen. I did not drop it or do anything to it. there is no physical damage. Because its the screen it's not warranty. So now Im just out.

Love the QWERTY keyboard for texting and boy, does it have memory--the phone itself has lots of memory, unlike the last phone I had. Installing the micro sd card is simple if you want extra memory for storing music, pics or videos.

Getting the back cover on the phone was a little tricky, but you just have to lay the phone down on a flat surface to put the back cover on.

I love the dedicated message button and speaker phone button and the fact that the speaker stays on until you turn it off--Great for when you are expecting a call that you know you want on speaker. I could go on and on about all the Hint's great features, but you really should check it out for yourself and get one. It's a Great phone!

» posted by: sasha / Jun 15, 2009 10:34 AM: i got this phone on thanksgiving, and about.. last month is randomly started shutting off. it deletes my locked text messages and after i turn it off and on, i get them back. sometimes when i get 10-50 text messages, it says that the memory is full. and then i have to delete everything again or restart it. it also freezes once in a while.

im going to alltel today to see when i can do about this, and maybe get a new one.

on the other hand, these phones are very sturdy. and easy to use. i love how small they are and easily fit in your pocket:) the sounds and the graphics are GREAT.

I love love love love this phone.
It's small, easy to text one, cool, and the vibrate is just loud enough that I can hear it at home, but soft enough so that I can leave it on at school and not have to put it on silent.
