Electric-driven car concepts are very popular nowadays due to growing prices on gas. However, majority of them suffer from the same problems: small distance that car can go on one battery charge; small power of electric engines, which means that almost all of them cannot drive faster than 120 kph (75 mph); long time of full battery charge and big price. This interesting prototype shows us that two of these problems can be solved already. This car is named Lightning GT, which is a very suitable name, because it resembles lightning in two ways - this car is very fast and it is driven by electricity. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4 seconds, which is amazingly fast for an electric car. All this power was made possible by using four different electric engines that power each wheel separately. Combined together they can deliver power of 700 horse power - a huge parameter even for gas engines. Of course, such power need big amount of electricity and it is given by new type of batteries that can be fully charged in minutes! They are using technology, developed by Altair Nanotechnologies, and can last up to 320 kilometers without recharging.
Will this interesting prototype begin the end of gas powered sports cars? That's what time will tell. But the advantages of electric cars are far bigger than gas powered ones. They make less noise, they are ecologically clean, and they don't even have the displacement, so there will be no taxes based on that parameter. This car has amazing abilities, so the price is sky-high - 238,000 dollars. It will be mass produced from 2009, but due to its price it will not be very popular. Anyways, it is a step forward in good direction, so let us wait other interesting products that will be more affordable to usual customers.
