Leica M Monochrom - the world's first full-frame black-and-white digital camera

May 11, 2012
Yesterday Leica Camera AG company has presented their compact cameras. Along with the Leica V-Lux 40 and Leica X2. However, the most interesting new feature is the model of the Leica M Monochrom - the world's first full-frame black and white digital camera.

We can see the attitude of Leica company to their M Monochrom as it was expressed in the subtitle of the page with its description: "The future of black and white digital photography."

As stated, the use of the camera sensor with resolution of 18 megapixels, with no Bayer color filter, allows to obtain images, which have very low noise, high sharpness and dynamic range. This long range camera is designed for Leica M lenses. Actually Leica M Monochrom is very similar to Leica M9 judging on specifications, apart from monochrome photos.

Photography began with black and white photographs, which now have a special charm. A large number of well-known black-and-white photographs were created using film cameras from Leica. In this sense, the model Leica M Monochrom can be considered a continuation of tradition.

It should be bundled with Silver Efex 2 and Photoshop Lightroom Software and will cost approximately $ 7950. Sales should begin in late July.
