Latest Kindle firmware update is out

Nov 24, 2009
We always remember about Kindle at gift giving times of the year. We can hardly not, can't we – Kindle 2 is still very modern, its style hasn't worn off and it offers best performance and user experience at the ebook reader market despite opponent rows growing in numbers. To keep the ball rolling, Amazon at their official event in Seattle has announced today that the new firmware is ready for Kindle 2. This is a result of six months of intense development as Amazon indicates. They also emphasize two major improvements.

The first enhancement is built-in PDF reader. It eliminates need to convert files in and out of Kindle format, so wave goodbye to it. I bet you can see through all the advantages of native PDF support so let's move on to what really stumbles. The new Kindle firmware improves battery life by 85 percents. No tricks, they don't release a new version with bigger battery, every Kindle owner can update his or hers via an automatic Whispernet powered update and have almost doubled battery life. There is a single stipulation however. It should be mentioned that it effects wireless on mode only (up to 7 days on one charge overall). If you keep your wireless connection shut down you shall see no difference at all.

I just can't stop thinking that it is not the new and so much greater code for firmware was written but it was the previous one that let all the charge prance straight through opened gates of wireless connection. Of course, Amazon deserves high praises for released firmware and I am not at any point try to question their hard work, it's just that sort of concern bred doubt which is healthy I suppose. Anyway, other than automatic update, new firmware is installed on all Kindles shipped from now on. At the moment of writing price is 259.00 USD, but I'm almost sure Amazon will drop it a bit for the holiday season.
