Turn your IR remote control into a radio based one

Jan 11, 2008
Remote controllers, while very handy, have one flaw - they are intended for use only with one device, and have a limited operating range. They operate via infrared rays, so you must point it directly at your device, and be assured that nothing is in the way. If you think that this problem is still unsolved you are wrong.

There are remotes that are based not only on IR, but also on radio waves. Radio waves are more suitable if the problem of range exists, because their range depends only on power of remote's transmitter. However, what if you already have IR remote control but want to make it long ranged? Then this gadget will help!

Remote Control Converter contains two main parts. First, a radio waves receiver and IR transmitter. It must be placed not far from your devices. The most interesting part must be installed in your remote control. This is a battery-shaped transmitter that transmits via radio waves all button presses you make on your remote! Moreover, because of waves and not IR rays, you are not limited to one room - you can control your devices from almost every corner of your house. This gadget is universal because it can be used in every remote control that is using AA or AAA batteries, which makes it easy to change what device will be controlled next. The receiver part also is a recharge station for mini battery transmitter.

Problem of precise pointing is gone now. If your AV equipment is hidden in cabinets or in out-of-the-way places - this gadget can make your life easier and more comfortable. In addition, you don't need to purchase radio based remote control for each of your devices - just replace the battery in original remote and it is ready to operate in a long range. Just remember to recharge the battery transmitter sometimes, and your devices will be under your control from every place of your house you want. It is priced at almost 52 dollars, and are sold by Argos in the United Kingdom.
