iPhone 4S versus Samsung Galaxy S II

Oct 26, 2011

The never ending battle for customer’s sympathy continues. Today’s competitors will be the new iPhone 4S and his Android rival - Samsung Galaxy S II. These are the “smartest” smartphones for the time. If you are planning to buy a new phone, I hope this’ll help you to make your decision. So, the first thing we will talk about is:

1. Size

The measures for the devices are: for Samsung 5.11 x 2.71 x .37 making him the thinest of all Androids, and for iPhone 4.5 x 2.31 x .37 (all inches, HxWxD). It is obvious that iPhone is smaller, but Galaxy S II has a bigger screen, and it’s a little lighter than his opponent. Next up is

2. Appearance

Judging by the look you can’t really tell who is the winner. Both devices are stylish and both came in two color variations: black and white. But there is something that can’t be unnoticed: iPhone has a premium front and rear glass housing and Samsung has only a thin plastic rear case. The winner is obvious, but only by the quality of the housing. The looks of both devices are equivalently stylish, so it’s a tie. The next thing will be

3. Display

iPhone’s Retina 3.5 inch screen has a 640×960 resolution thus creating a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch. Samsung’s AMOLED 4.52 inch screen has a 480×800 resolution, which means that the density is only 216 pixels per inch. The point goes the iPhone, but really they both are very good touchscreen displays. The forth will be

4. Operating System

It is obvious that iPhone runs on iOS 5 and Samsung on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. iOS 5 is the latest os version for iDevices from Apple. It has lots of new stuff. As the developer states, it has over two hundred new features plus increased reliability and speed. The most noticeable thing is the voice controlled interface Siri. You really should watch iPhone 4S’s presentation to see for yourselves.
Android with it’s Touchwiz interface is claimed to be “more refined and polished”, which basically means a more intuitive user interface. The fifth

5. Processor

iPhone 4S has received a huge update with it’s new Dual 800 MHz core A5 processor. Apple says you’ll notice the upgrade with it’s faster responses that make all the difference when you’re launching apps, on the web and doing everything else you do on your smartphone these days.
Galaxy S II wields a Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 Processor with 1.5 GHz dual-core CPUs. As the developer states, you will be able to run multiple apps simultaneously on the device’s screen without freezing. The next thing will be

6. Storage

For the first time Apple made an iPhone available in 64 GB variation. Samsung wields only 16 GB but has a MicroSD slot which can add 32 GB extra. But even with a card its not enough to beat iPhone with it’s 64 GB. The Seventh aspect of comparison will be

7. Wireless Connectivity

Both phones support GSM and CDMA networks, for those who like to travel. Galaxy S II also supports 4G networks making it possible to transmit data with the maximum speed of 42 Mbps. It also has Bluetooth 3.0 onboard.
iPhone doesn’t have 4G support, but has a Bluetooth 4.0 and according to the manufacturers a unique system of switching between two antennas, so the speeds are equal to the 4G speeds. The eighth one will be

8. Camera

The camera is another thing that has been seriously upgraded since the last iPhone version. 4S’s camera has 8 MP, custom lens with increased f/2.4 aperture. Camera in Galaxy S II is an absolute match to the iPhone’s. They both has 8MP, auto-focus, digital zoom, LED flash and 1080p video recording capability. In this aspect, it’s a tie. The ninth thing will be

9. Battery Life

As always the battery is hidden inside the iPhone. Apple states that the new 4S’s battery will hold up to 8 hours on 3G. Standby time is up to 200 hours, while Internet use is up to 6 hours on 3G and up to 9 on Wi-Fi. Video playback is up to 10 hours and audio playback is up to 40 hours. Samsung wields a rechargeable 1850 mAh lithium-ion battery with talk time pretty much the same with the iPhone so expect 8 hours to be the maximum. The tenth thing we’re going to talk about is

10. Carriers

You can get the iPhone on AT&T, Sprint and Verizon, while the Galaxy S II is available on T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint. The last but not least

11. Price

The prices for the iPhones variations are: $ 199 for 16 GB, $ 299 for 32 GB and $ 399 for 64 GB.
With AT&T, the Galaxy S II starts at $ 199.99, while T-Mobile has it for $ 299.99. Sprint is carrying it for $ 199.99 also (all with a new contract).

Conclusion
It’s a tie. As we can see above, there is no exact winner. What I can surely say, these are both great smartphones. You wont regret buying one of these, that’s for sure.
