Guys at NASA Ames research center at Moffet Field have designed a hyperwal that is actually a set of screens working together. Its only task is to spread the videos and pictures across the screens and make them work together. With more than 55 Square Feet of Viewing Surface, and 64 Million Pixels it promises to be the biggest TV gadget in the world. Each screen, there are totally 49 screens, is driven by its own Dual 2 GHz AMD Opteron processor with nVidia GeForce 4 Ti4600. This is not it, those machines would actually do a pretty good job in any office task with 100 GB of hard disc space and one GB of RAM memory per node. This way the total video output that these babies give out adds up to 100 Gb/s.
All the nodes display their own isolated but related images so human imagination can integrate them all into one big screen. All the nodes that control screens are controlled by a single node that gives out commands and directions on what to do to other nodes. They all run on Linux operating system, and visualization NASA team has designed a special software package for it all to work.
This mega display can be used by researchers as a mega spreadsheet allowing them to convey info from parameter studies. Besides they will be able to interact with computations in real time. Big screen for big researchers.
