They did not let him fly because of his iPod charger

Jul 20, 2007
We all take a bunch of gadgets onboard with us; our cell phones, PPC's, Nintendo DS, battery chargers all of them are constantly traveling with people. However, sometimes you get unlucky and they don't let you get onboard because of his iPod charger. A TSA guard at JFK did not let the passenger through because he thought that his DIY iPod charger looked like an IED.

"Ridiculous!" said the man. When he was asked where he got that he answered that had bought it over the Internet and that he had flown with it many times and nobody said anything to him.

You know what the answer was? "Not on my watch and not with my people." And that's it for an iPod charger. Then he swabbed this gadget and ran it through the calorimeter and magic; no residue, again. When the man asked him why he doesn't let him in he got the answer, "Because it looks like an IED".

Security in the airports is a very important thing and we need to be cautious. But, hey this one is ridiculous, it might look dangerous on the scanner but not when you really look at it. Basically it is just a plastic glued to USB port and some batteries.

The funniest thing is that they had called the police and they determined that it was fine. But, they took the batteries because, well, nobody knows what kind of mayhem you can do with two simple D sized batteries.

And such stories happen.
