Now that's a cool high-tech gadget, I was surprised when I first saw it. A thin layer of paper can fit some electronics in it and it has speakers, in order to talk to you. Instead of magical mirror that was saying who the most beautiful person in the world is now you can hear that from this digital paper gadget. The billboard consists of a few layers; digital paper itself and two cardboards to protect it. The digital paper comes in with electronics built in. The electronics that are built into digital paper are: Conductive inks, tiny computer that has pre-recorded audio files and speakers of course.
When you apply pressure on the conductive ink it will notify the computer that it has been touched. Then computer decides which audio file to use and plays it on digital paper speakers.
The speakers' construction is genius too; they consist of the same conductive inks. The difference is only that they are situated over an empty cavity. This forms a diaphragm and allows the speakers to play audio files. This all is fit into several millimeters.
This technology can be used in many ways, for example in packages. It can tell you how fresh the milk is or when it was produced, so you don’t have to look for those numbers on the package. Or it would be a cool idea if they had this technology built into cigarettes packages in order to notify them of danger and try to make them quit smoking. Playboy digital paper pages would be cool too, sounds can help your imagination.
So far this technology is too expensive to be mass produced. The scientists are looking for some ways to make this technology cheaper.
