The world's smallest laser for HD DVD and Blue-Ray Discs

May 28, 2007
Sharp is today's star creating this small gadget for all of us to admire. First they create the largest LCD panel and now they create the smallest blue laser for the Optical disc drives. The larger, the smaller, the faster the better they will do on their sales.

This wonderful gadget measures only 3.3 mm in diameter and will allow you to work with such discs as: CDs, DVDs, HD DVDs and even Bly-ray discs. Remember that it is the smallest laser in the world. Smaller size means less energy consumption.

This tiny gadget will suck only 10mW of power on your laptop for example. So it will increase the life of you battery. Not that it would be somewhat very significant but it is still a nice thing to know. Besides, having such low power consumption it still has a long (10,000 hours) life time.

This puppy will come around on June 13 and later in July we will see the production work in full force. They will cost about $ 100 per unit and I think that it is a very good price for a gadget like this.

Lasers play a vital role in today's high tech world.  Some examples include DVD readers, laser printers and laser pointers.  Desktop computers with a CD-ROM drive have lasers.  Even refurbished  notebooks have a mini laser.

This laser is dang small! I love its size. However, will it be powerful enough to burn HD DVD's and stuff? Won't it heat up too much. I mean the laser should be pretty powerful if you want to burn something on the DVD.
