Information is power.. However how do you find the needed information on how many people look at your billboard or your advertisement? There is technology for that and it was there long time ago but it was expensive and not very accurate. The new gadget from Google and Xuuk will help the marketing people very much. EyeBox can be place by any billboard and give you the information on how many people looked at the billboard. This way you know if your advertisement is effective or not and whether it is situated in the right spot.
How it works? The cameras that existed before were pricey and they were not sophisticated. They were registering only those objects (people) who were standing still while reading. EyeBox is palm sized and has another principle of work. It shines with IR (InfraRed) light and records how many red eyes it sees.
The trick is simple but here is the drawback about it: every billboard has to have such a gadget if you want to find out how many people looked at them because the camera registers only those persons who look directly at it.
The camera will cost you $ 1,000 and it is a very good price as opposed to the earlier ones that cost $ 25,000. Advertisers will not run to stores to buy this thing right away but I think it will be a good replacement to the old cameras.
Oh, and one more question. Will the camera see through sunglasses? Summer is coming to town and we are going to wear them a lot. My personal question is: No, it will not see through glasses, however it depends on how much light they let through.
