HDMI Video of Xbox 360 Elite - is it better?

Apr 27, 2007
HDMI Video of Xbox 360 Elite The coming of new console from MS revealed all the features of Xbox 360 Elite. It is not much quieter then Xbox 360. Besides the drive is not quieter either; and finally the console heats about the same as Xbox 360.

There are only 2 differences between these two consoles. The first one is 120 GB hard drive and the second one is HDMI output. HDMI output that has appeared in Xbox 360 Elite has created some new questions. So what is better: new gadget with HDMI output or the old cheaper Xbox 360?

The tests show that HDMI is best around in playing DVDs, HD DVDs, benchmark discs, games, WMV movies from Marketplace and photos. Yes, it is better but you will hardly see the difference.

If you are just a gamer you probably don't need it because I would not pay that much money just to have a slightly different picture when I am playing. Games are all about gameplay and not the graphics.

Or if you are just looking for a good HD DVD Player this is not the gadget for you. Or if you like getting movies from Marketplace and viewing them it is not for you because the console is still loud and nothing will save you from that noise.

Xbox 360 Elite is a console for hardcore gamers and video geeks. However, not many people would pay that much money and through their Xbox 360 away.

Some technical details: the only thing where the HDMI cable is better then the usual component output is in shadowing. Shadow detail is better with the HDMI and thus the picture quality increases.

There is a difference in all the fields of use: video, gaming, etc. But it is much more obvious when you view pictures. The picture quality increases again thanks to shadow detail.

When playing games we where trying to see the difference but we where able to see that only when started switching the views back and forth. There is a difference in some dark places and a higher level of details but very slight.

If you really need something cool you can buy this Xbox 360 Elite. However I think that you should just buy that damn 120 GB hard drive if you need space because you will not be seeing any differences at home.

but what about the difference between hdmi and the old xbox's with only scart? ones where you cant set up hdtv display. presumably with newer xboxes with component cables you can still set the display for hd? what about the old xboxes where you cant do this? is there a huge difference there?

It does matter if you have a huge 5 feet tall tv in your living room. I personally think that the picture qualiti of HDMI video is much better. This is what supposed to happen when you change the technology. I think HDMI video technology is much better than usual component output.
