Want a touchscreen laptop? Make one out of yours

Mar 28, 2007
Touchscreen laptops are pretty rarely used nowadays and if you want to get one it is going to cost you pretty much money. It is not worth that much money, I mean the touchscreen. However you can enjoy having this function on your laptop. NAVIsis has produced a gadget that will make your laptop's screen a touchscreen. No need to buy any expensive laptops you can use your old favorite one.

The laptop Tablet converts your laptop's screen into a touch sensitive one in several seconds. This gadget being attached to the side of the laptop's screen will let you use stylus to write things and push buttons. The controls will be just like you are using a usual touchscreen like on a PDA or Communicator phone.

The idea of that is great because you do not have to change the laptop itself even if you really want to get a touchscreen one. And it might be more useful in some cases when you use writing and any graphics programs.

However, the laptop's screen hasn't been created to be a touchescreen and to be touched by a stylus or ever worse by your hands. So you might actually ruin your screen using this gadget. It is either you are going to need to by a special protective cover for your screen or use the gadget as little as you can.

Why not just make your own? all you need is a microcontroller, programming knowledge, and lots of small infared led transmitters and recievers.

I would have to say that, "This is a bad idea! For a product."

Tablet PC's or Touch Screen laptops are designed with people in mind that do need that sort of technology.

This product will ruin your screen!

i bought this product and would like to say it is amazing, the best way to make it work, WITHOUT DAMAGING YOUR LAPTOP SCREEN, is to place your laptop underneath and glass table and attach the devide to the table, or get a peice of plexiglass plastic to fit your monitor size and clip the device onto both the monitor and protective plastic protector. Alternatively, for cheaper, you can get thick screen protectors for you laptop that protect your screen AND ARE MADE FOR THE PEN AND FOR NON-TOUCH LAPTOP SCREENS. DO SOME RESEARCH PEOPLE. this product is effective and a nice gadget and is surprisingly accurate if you take into consideration that you didnt buy a touch screen in the first place.
It is however only a touch pen screen, not meant for fingers, only a stylus.
It is best to order this product off of ebay and do it right. There is a cheap ghetto one for 60-80 dollars, DO NOT BUT THAT ONE, its the small one that clips onto the top of the laptop screen. Instead, spend the extra money $120 and get the one that is a bar that runs the entire length of the top of your screen and comes with a dual button stylus. The 3 inch device is the inaccurate crappy one, the full 14 inch one is the best.

Load of crap and a half. First off, you need to work on your article writing. If I threw that at my teacher and said "This is my article based on the info you gave me" they'd throw it back at me and tell me to redo it. ALL of it.

Secondly, "However, the laptop's screen hasn't been created to be a touchescreen and to be touched by a stylus or ever worse by your hands." That's not even a complete sentence. Besides, if it CAN and WILL damage our screens, why buy it? I'm not going to "use it as little as possible" because it WILL ruin my screen eventually.

i agree with ross
obviously this writer is ignorant
or a 5th grader writing a report on new-age technology
all together it was a bad read
and a bad product
HONESTLY!
who NEEDS to touch their screens for optimal use of their PC?
not me...

this is a horrible article.
1. it sounds like a 5th grader wrote it.
2. it doesn't explain that it actually does not turn anything into a touch screen. the device triangulates the pen. it is not accurate at all.

From what I see, it works much like the laser keyboard, which Displays a keyboard on any flat surface and tracks where your fingers are going. So, yes, this IS possible, it would turn your flat panel into a touch sensitive surface, but it would do the same for any flat surface. How about keep the laptop under a glass table, with a laser keyboard and this handy gadget? No more stupid comments please, that's very irritating.

SIR/MADAM, WHERE CAN I BUY IT ?
» posted by: Anikoto / Aug 23, 2008 03:31 PM
first of all You have to plug this thing in usb
After that, This is your wish that you should put that on table or laptop side (to feel good)
BUT THAT THING IS NOT MAKING YOUR LAPTOP A TOUCH SCREEN.

Of course it won't replace your display into a touchscreen. In order to do that you need to change your laptop. However, it is a great feature to add for your laptop. I personally had problems with free space on bus, train and such a gadget in addition to those twisting screens would be very useful in these cases. I wish they had made a real touch sensitive panel that would be hanging on the screen to make it controllable with no mouse or keyboard.

this is a bunch of bull, theres no way thats possible

THIS DOES NOT TURN YOUR LAPTOP INTO A TOUCHSCREEN.

One has to use the PEN for all input. After looking at the product's official website, it seems very likely (to me at least) that you cannot touch the screen.
