iPhone vs. Samsung F700: What is better?

Feb 15, 2007
iPhone has been announced a few weeks ago and a lot of people were waiting for it to appear. It is one of the best smart phones in its class. However, there is another smart phone that is on the same level as the iPhone. Samsung F700 was announced later then the iPhone however it beats iPhone in several characteristics.

Samsung phones become better and better every day and the iPhone is almost the best phone in the world. These phones could be called gadgets because they are top leaders in cell phones industry.

It is very hard to compare and choose one of these phones if you want to buy a smart phone of that level. We will try to help you with that.

Which touchscreen is better?

The size of the iPhone's touchscreen is bigger then the Samsung's one and it measures 3.5 inches as opposed to Samsung's 2.8 inches display. Size does matter nowadays: more and more we watch movies and view pictures using our phones and other portable devices. Sometimes it is crucial to have a big screen even if it involves increasing the size of the device. This means that you are going to have a bigger gadget.

The resolution of the screen is a very important feature that a smartphone needs to have because most of them have screen keyboards and it wouldn't be so cool to type when you have tiny buttons displayed. iPhone's display's resolution is 480 x 320 pixels and it is very awesome for a phone. The resolution of the Samsung's F700 screen is not much smaller and it is 440 x 240 pixels, besides it has a smaller screen.

Having a touchscreen on your phone is cool and convenient. These two companies have different solutions for their touchscreens. iPhone has the touchscreen with Multitouch function and Samsung screen has the Drag and Drop function.

See what is more suitable to you. I think that a bigger display would win the battle.

Connectivity

There is nothing much to say about it we just need to list you the features the phones have. iPhone works with Quad-Band GSM (850, 900, 1800, 1900), it has EDGE, 802.11 b/g, and Bluetooth 2.0. As opposed to Samsung F700 it has Bluetooth and it is an advantage, we think.

Samsung F700 differs from iPhone with: Tri-Band GSM, 7.2 Mb/s HSDPA, and it has also EDGE. It does not say anything about Bluetooth; maybe it does not have it. It is not a good thing because it is one of the best ways to connect to other devices.

They both have Full HTML browsers so you will be able to get online easy and fast.

Keyboard

There are many discussions about the keyboards and which one is better. iPhone has a bigger display and it has an On-screen keyboard and has no real keyboard. On one hand it is more convenient to use a real QWERTY keyboard then the one that fits on a display and this is the advantage of Samsung F700 keyboard. However, on the other hand the number of buttons is limited if you have a real keyboard, as opposed to programmable keyboard of iPhone. So there are two sides of the coin in this case.

Camera

We do not doubt that Cameras and video capturing is very good on these phones however iPhone has done one not very good thing. They used 2.0 MP camera in their phone as opposed to 5 MP camera of Samsung F700. See for yourself 5 MP or 2 MP this is obvious that Samsung's camera is better. Besides, Samsung was always making good cameras and good software to use them. It does not mean that iPhone has a bad camera but it is not as good.

Codec Support

Why are you buying a smart-phone? Of course you want to have good multimedia functions built in. And it is a matter of how many file types you can open, run or use with help of you smart-phone. iPhone has all the standard iPod files support and it does not differ from a video iPod in this case. However, Samsung can beat iPhone here because it supports more file formats: MPEG 4, H.263, H.264, Real MP3, AAC+, eAAC+ and photos.

Storage

A lot of storage space, that is what we all want to have. And there are also some differences and advantages of one gadget towards another. First of all iPhone has a drive for 4 GB or 8 GB and you choose what you want. It is pretty much space however, there are no expansion slots in it. So you will not be able to expand your storage space.

On the other hand Samsung F700 has micro SD expansion slot, but there is no information about the onboard memory so we cannot say anything about that. I think that it is more convenient to be able to use a memory stick but you have to pay additional money to buy it.

Both smart phones deserve to be called one of the best ones.

iPhone has advantages and beats its opponent with size and resolution of the screen, storage, google maps, push email, HTML Email, and of course it is still iPod.

However there are some cool things about Samsung F700: Better camera (5 MP), it supports more formats than iPhone, it has actual keyboard, and it has 3G connectivity.

gee I'm more confused. I love my iphone, but yes I m stuck with only Itunes. I want to get the 3 g as soon as possible, but although I'm applicable for a free 3g iphone, I don't want it with a 2 year contract, besides I want to go to Europe. In Europe the iphone has reached there, but mine won't work there, its a locked phone + The internet use costed a fortune when I was there last year. So maybe I should give another phone a chance. Being that I have a mac, I thought it would be great to have a iphone, but I can later buy a regular pc too and have both to enjoy : ) so should I go for the F700 or any other phone do you recommend. Don't worry about movies, I would only use it to show my video clips to friends anyway. So I'm not into watching movies on a phone. I want to stay home on my couch or bed and watch it. My iphone is great for pics and for browzing.

LOL I left verizon because they were expensive, now that the apple company got big, now At & t became hotsy totsy with expense, who is next at these difficult times?

I just purchased the F700 in S.A and I love it! The touch screen can be a bit sensitive at times, and the software is giving hassles, but hey! No phone is perfect. I think the F700 is the generic version of the I phone!

F700 is one of the oldes rivals of the iPhone. However, maybe the iPhone is the rival for all those phones. Because, iPhone's appearence looks very like one phone from asia that has been created before the iPhone. So iPhone is not a breakthrough, it has been copied.

Does anyone know if the F700 took the "pop-up" text messaging. Thats important to me since so much of my work is done via text. I have the Treo755p now and the conversation text is a must for me.

I have the LG KU990 Viewty whish should be concidered in this discussion.

On ... that the viewty had a avarage of 79%

iPhone had allso 79% but the F700 only 72%

I have tested iPhone and have to say that it is in its on class as most of the apple products. But the F700 seems a bit lame! Just tried it in the store!

I've just got my F700 and I really really really love it!

Yes, this phone actually can sync with PC so u can exchange your schedules (Windows Mobile 6) and the screen is not too small at all.` it's big enough and if the touch screen is too big, your hand should be big too. ! I think it is the perfect size.

Also, Camera is 3M, which is better than the iPhone.

Also, you can do Google Map and YouTube too on F700~!!!!

And the biggest thing is the keyboard !! I have tried to use the iPhone at the shop and that keyboard isn't that good at all. and it's small!

Full keyboard? a u guys expecting PC keyboard or something? But I think using only the touch screen would kill you one day.! It’s so annoying (especially when you get angry)

I really love this phone .I was considering these two phones for almost 2 months. And I finally went with Samsung f700.

Good luck guys !

Apple saw the guy coming who spoke about his "Macbook PRO" and his "BMW", get a brain, buy something because you want it, not because an advertisement has told you you want it

I have a F700 and I must say its the coolest phone I've had for a while. Email works a treat via Vodafone.net. It seems to push the email to the phone although I cannot find anything in the specs about push email. I have a good data account with vodafone so the lack of WIFI isn't a massive problem and if I need to do alot of surfing i'd use a PC anyway. The slide out ketboard is a big plus for me and is easy to use even with my big fingers!! The sync software was easy to use and I was able to add all my contacts, memos, and calendar in seconds over bluetooth. All round I think this phone is good performer and as it was free on voda I'm very happy!

Another big difference is the price and availability to your social status. With one I could provide just an address, couple of bills and an ID to walk out of the store with it whilst the other started to embark on an investigation of where I lived 3years ago or even maybe when was my girlsfriend´s last period but by then i was already long gone. Guess which one was which?

I wish people would only write reviews if they have actually touched the unit. The accelerometer is used for more than just rotating the display for You Tube, Browser, Photos, and iPod, but also to turn the display light on and off when you put the phone to your ear or take it away to look at the display. BTW the 2G is not bad since I am on WiFi most of the time at home or office. TO check mail or even Google Maps it works well and saves the battery compared to Nokia 3G phones.

common!!! bluetooth is a no-brainer in the F700, ofcourse it has it!!!
to me the F700 specs kills the iPhone, but too bad for the F700 it has not-so big screen.

talking about the browser, give a break!! the samsug has HSDPA, aka 3.5G (iPhone not even 3G) it has a 7.2Mbps connection and no "HTML" browser???? Helloo!!! this thing has Windows Mobile 6!!! (Internet Explorer anybody??)

I do actually love this product.

And I'm grateful for it too.

Basically I like all Apple products. To me, it's a way to buy a BMW every month, without having to pay £60,000.

Have you ever driven a mid-to-high-end BMW? I have, recently, I test drove a 535i. The car feels as if it has a grip on the road, it's got a confidence, it's upright, and fast, and it maneuvers, but most important, it feels good to sit in one, and it feels even better to move one. Feels, feels, feels. We buy these things for the feeling. Same with Apple's products.

My MacBook Pro has the BMW feeling, with its Titanium everything, it's just got that solid, upright feel to it. But it's big. The iPhone has that feeling, in something small, that fits in your hand.

You don't want to give it to someone, you want to just hold it. I know it sounds silly and dorky, geez it's just a phone, after all, but it's not. It's a totem. A symbol. A charm. A fortune cookie. It's personal. It's mine.

Yes I know I sound like Gollum.

iPhone is not as good as people think. its a touchscreen with 2MPx. its made by apple so no wonder why its the first to use this opperating system. what would apple have used Windows mobile? how useful is the accelerometer? are you going to spend all day rotating your phone? although it has good memory, it lacks a card slot. Java (and maybe Flash) will not work on this (even basic phones have this feature). it lacks 3G (which several of the newer phones have got). i have not noticed any games on this phone and almost every phone even phones which dont have color have games. it lacks basic features most phones have. your paying $499 - $599 with a two year contract! Apple has no experience in the phone industry. you have to use iTunes for loading music and video. no other phone does this and this just allows apple to make even more profit. you can not use a stylus, or gloves or anything other than your fingers when you touch it, so its sure to get greasy. it does not sync using WiFi. it does not support wireless sync via Bluetooth. the virtual keys make it slower to use than a Blackberry. iPhone does not include any speed dial features.

It's not really accurate to say that the F700 supports more formats than the iPhone. The iPhone is, as you pointed out, a full featured iPod, which means it supports MP3, MP4, AAC, protected AAC (purchased iTunes tracks), WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, and H.264, as well as unprotected WMA via a translator
