If you have passion for eco sailing, this excellent yacht will be a perfect solution. Called Zero CO2, this green yacht appears to be a worldwide first hydrogen powered yacht which is zero emission and comes equipped with a laboratory designed to research pollution in the Mediterranean. Powered by hydrogen fuel cells, this environmentally friendly yacht produces renewable energy used for on board system. The Zero CO2 yacht is expected to go live in March 2010 with a project goal to make clean water for sea commuting while leaving no carbon footprint. Non carbon sailing is possible thanks to its auxiliary engine. First off, the Zero CO2 yacht is scheduled to be showcased at the Paris Boat Show in December 2009 while scientific team of Joseph Fourier and Floralis get prepared to collect the marine information on pollution level for a period of 10 month.
Solar and wind harnessing systems are supposed to be powered by renewable energy created by hydrogen fuel cells. The new energy sources are expected to replace traditional fossil fuels while reducing the level of carbon emissions. This ecologically conscious yacht is constructed by the RM La Rochelle shipyard and has a length of 12 meters while its hydrogen fuel cell technology is conceived by CEA Liten of Grenoble.
This carbon free expedition is aimed to show the efficiency of using combined energy, analyze information selected by the laboratory to mainly assess fossil fuels pollution from coastline to sea, promote renewable self-sustainable energies and be environmentally friendly. The web site created by the Zero CO2 provides the data on the project advancement at different stages of development.
Marine areas covered by this green expedition include Southern French, Sardinia, Sicily, Corsica, Tunisia, Turkey, Crete, the Greek coastline, Croatia, Montenegro, the Italian coastline, Spain, as well as the Balearic Islands. It seems to be the first time when a yacht is equipped with laboratory consisting of two analytic devices engineered by Floralis’s business units, Sara and Ecometrix.
