HTC MAX 4G - powerful communicator with WiMAX

Nov 16, 2008
While whole world enjoys the advantages that 3G networks bring, including video calls and fast Internet connection, it's time to look forward into the future. Not so long time ago, new communication standard hit the floor - it was named WiMAX, and it is the most advanced wireless internet technology up-to-date. It is like a WiFi, only way faster, and the area is huge - 75 km radius compared to only 1 km of WiFi. This advanced technology can help in spreading Internet connection over the whole city, connecting it into WMAN (Wireless Metropolitan Area Network). Several companies in Russia already put their stakes on it, and they got a pretty good coverage in the biggest cities. One of these companies, Yota, even contacted HTC, largest PocketPC smartphones manufacturer, for releasing a special smartphone for their WiMAX network. And here it is - new powerful smartphone from HTC, with full WiMAX possibilities and great hardware, exclusive to Russia-only.

New model from HTC is named HTC MAX 4G, and it looks like an HTC Touch HD spin-off with WiMAX and slightly different design. Most of the features are the same: powerful Qualcomm ESM7206A 528 MHz CPU, 288 MB of RAM, 256 MB ROM, 8 GB built-in flash memory, big 3.8 inched LCD with 480 x 800 resolution, rear camera with autofocus and frontal camera for video calls, accelerometer, and full set of wireless interfaces (maybe the fullest on market) - Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 900/1800/1900 MHz + WiMAX 2.5 - 2.7 GHz. Operating system is Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, which is coupled with interesting and pretty TouchFLO 3D interface from HTC. With its huge display and powerful CPU it can be called an ultimate multimedia center; it plays unconverted video files with no glitches at all, has FM radio and supports a variety of audio formats. With GPS abilities, due to its big screen, HTC MAX 4G can serve a good job as navigator, either for car or for travelling by foot.

With this gadget HTC proved the word "Innovation" in their slogan. They certainly can innovate, and they do look forward into the future. At this moment WiMAX networks are not widely spread, but who knows what will be after year or two? HTC MAX 4G is a very strong communicator with a powerful hardware and decent characteristics. It will never be as popular as Apple's toy, it is aimed at business segment and it will remain there. Maybe next smartphone from Apple will be iPhone 4G? HTC MAX 4g is scheduled to release at the end of November 2008 in Russia only, estimated price - 1090 dollars.

"Plays unconverted video files with no glitches"
You really need to stop claiming the literature as fact.

You also said this of the Xperia X1 and its far from the truth.

These Qualcomm based HTC phones play unconverted videos terribly with plenty of glitches. This is because Qualcomm wont open up the video acceleration for use properly and even the best ARM11 can't do all the work on its own.

I'm still think the Krave by Motorola is a strong competitor in the touch screen cell phone market. It boast a ton of features, my favorites being the 2 MP camera and HTML web browsing. I was impressed with it ever since I started working with Motorola.
