Eye-popping space solar power by PG&E

Apr 23, 2009
Is not it good to live in clean and green world. Solar powered space station appears to become the reality with its new project from PG&E. This amazing space station which is powered by the sun is something that became a reality nowadays. There will be satellites powered by the sun with a range of 22 000 miles over the Earth’s equator. Principle of operation is that generated energy is transformed into radio waves to finally convert to an Earth station.

It is scheduled that PG will be supplying 200 MW of base load power in Solar En Corp. by 2016. Most energy is generated with danger to our environment while new technologies are in the works to be sufficient on a worldwide scale. Solar power stationed in space is superior rather than solar stations placed on the land and prove to be more efficient up to 10 times.

The very important factor is the fact that space solar panels are able to act as base load power sources, given 24 hours of sunlight per day. The satellites are going to be launched into a geosynchronous orbit to be 22,000 miles over the Earth’s equator. Once the solar station is deployed, sun rays are collecting to finally become radio waves. So the waves will be reflected to Earth back to a receiving station.

Radiation is said to be a danger for our planet, but its followers insist that there will be no harm to our planet as well as for vegetation and animals. The project is highly expensive to cost about billion. The project is highly productive in the other hand, with 2 to 4.8 gig watts of power being generated. Actually, they are expected to produce power which will be sufficient for 250,000 homes.

Solaren Corporation was launched in 2001. Called “California C Corporation”, it consists of around highly skilled space 10 engineers and scientists with the intention to construct a space energy company to produce power in geosynchronous orbit. They intend to increase its power production more than 100 this year. The idea was born due to the presence of efficiency energy conversion devices as well as launch vehicle developments.

What is interesting is that it is going to become the first solar space station in the world. It is reported to generate power in 2016 due to experience of the engineers. Additionally, the SSP satellites are verified before being launched. As soon as it is in geosynchronous orbit, satellite will be checked with all its functions and performance. Solaren's SSP energy conversion process is carried out absolutely carbon-free.

The whole process is quiet amazing, with satellites using solar cells in space in order to transform the sun’s power into electricity. The SSPA devices transmits electricity into RF energy, with satellite transforming RF energy to the ground receive station. Finally, the ground receiver transports the RF power into electricity.
