Dell Alienware X51, a PC in the form factor of a game console

Jan 19, 2012

Let’s imagine one of the most frequently met PC in most people’s houses. It’s a big, power consuming and noisy box, which becomes even noisier due to the constant processor load while gaming, for example. Many people solved this problem by buying a laptop, but in my opinion laptops are not the best choice for gamers. Guys at Dell created something that will combine mobility of a laptop and fully satisfy all your gaming needs.

The Alienware X51 is a gaming oriented PC packed into a console size housing. The main version of the device costs $ 699 and features an Intel Core i3 processor clocked at 3.3 GHz, Windows 7 Home Edition 64-bit, 4 GB of DDR3 RAM, a 1 TB hard drive spinning at 7200 rpms, a Super Drive, built-in Wi-Fi b/g/n and a 1 GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GT 545 video card. I’d say that it is more than enough for comfortable gaming. But if you still feel the lack of performance, there are three alternative versions with increased performance.

The first one wields Core i5 3 GHz with 8 GB of DDR3 RAM and will cost you $ 200 more, $ 899.
The second one has 6 GB of RAM but has increased graphics performance with 1GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 555 video card. This version will cost you $ 949.
The third and the most expensive one, which will cost you $ 1149, wields a Core i7 processor burning at 3.4 Ghz and 8 GB or DDR3 RAM.

All variations include 6 USB 2.0 ports (2 on the front, 4 on the back), 2 USB 3.0 ports, HDMI 1.4 port and support for full surround sound. The thing is already available for sale.
