This handheld camcorder does it up right with a built-in 60GB hard drive, MPEG-2 HD recording (though not Full HD, reportedly), and the ability to capture onto SD / SDHC flash cards.

Daniel Schweinert builds custom 35mm depth of field (DOF) adapters for cameras and camcorders that allow you to use traditional 35mm lens on your camcorder. While he sells many of the kit parts himself, he puts all of the instructions online for free, should you want to try your hand at building your own.

But make no mistake, they've nailed it with their Xacti series of solid state camcorders. Meet the DMX-HD1000, their first to record full 1080p, 1,920 x 1,080 resolution video using the HD/MPEG-4 AVC codec.

The move was reportedly made so that attendants could have "evidence to prove beyond doubt that the penalties its wardens hand out are justified," which sounds like it could cut down on any questionable penalization that disgruntled employees had the power to administer. 've looked through a lot of the high-end flash-based camcorder specs and it just doesn't look like line-in is something that's offered. Even the upcoming 1080i-capable Sanyo VPC-HD1000 doesn't say it has a line-in, even though it inexplicably has a headphone out and a "microphone adapter cable" is a listed in-box accessory.

irst Macbook Air thought: No Firewire is a bummer, if understandable. It means if I move to an Air for my mobile laptop I'm going to have to ditch my Canon HV20 camcorder for something that copies over USB, like a Sanyo Xacti.

use a small over-the-shoulder bag for my camcorder sometimes. It really is great to be able to get at it without taking off my bag, especially in crowded settings

The latest HD Everio trims some 27% of the bulk from their GZ-HD7 while offering much of the same features albeit, at a lower resolution.

If you'll recall, the new GZ-HD7 kid-brother rocks a 60GB internal hard drive, allowing for something like five hours of 1440 x 1080, 30Mbps recordings.

Seeking to craft a "driverless model car," the project will reportedly utilize a standard remote control model vehicle, which will be flanked by a PC, camcorder, and a bevy of sensors. Supposedly, the software that will be riding on board will allow the vehicle to be "entirely autonomous" by recognizing obstacles, making tactical decisions, and driving itself around a test track.
