notebooks today have seen the light of close release. All three are from
Asus and are aimed for different consumer categories so they will not interfere with each other as they go on sale. Among them – the new Eee PC 1008HA Seashell which is expectably the most affordable one – only 429 USD for widely updated
hardware. Up the price range next two models standing are a bit like each other with similar design solutions, respectively stuffed hardware and even the same operating system. Specs are already known so it is all about the release time now.
Asus Eee PC 1008HA Seashell
Latest Asus Eee PC will have to try hard to cope with modern day applications and browsing. But that is why it still runs Windows XP Home. Otherwise the Intel Atom N280 that is inside will be taken by OS alone, all 1.66GHz of it. RAM as before is a 1GB DDR2,
display is also the same 10 inch 1024 x 600 WSVGA. Wireless features were improved for the 1008HA – it now sports Draft N WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1. Battery lifetime has been extended up to 6 six hours of work. 1.3 Mpix webcam plus mic and headphone also in the pack. Overall nice old school Eee PC in a choice of black, blue, pink and white colors for 429 USD.

For a price of two 1008s U80V offers four times bigger RAM – 4GB DDR2, otherworldly better discreet ATI Mobility Radeon 512 MB HD4570, and, of course, better chipset. The Intel PM45 Centrino 2 is fueled by 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T9550. As a result we have Windows Vista Home Premium at its best with ability to run DirectX10 games. Super Hybrid Engine (Seashell also has it) keeps batteries alive up to 6 hours. The design work is great – "Chiclet" keyboard has backlighting as well as the touchpad. Together with the display lighting backlight is adjusted for better comfort considering lightning of the place you happen to be in. Display by the way is 14 inch 16 : 9. MSRP of the U80V is 899 USD.

This one shares its keyboard and touchpad lightening with the previous model. 4GB DDR2 RAM and 1.3 webcam is also the same. The chipset and the processor are different however. An ultra low voltage Intel Core 2 Solo SU33000 sits on a Mobile Intel GS45 chipset. It has only 1.2GHz at the disposal so I hope Vista Home Premium will not suffer from constant freezes. Maybe this is why they have put in Nvidia GeForce G105M with same 512MB as ATI Mobility Radeon HD4570 in the U80V, but anyway the price has gown up over a thousand dollars. UX50's MSRP 1,199 USD really sounds steep for that piece of hardware.
