Apple touchscreen netbook from the depth of corporate ties

Mar 09, 2009
Sketch of upcoming Apple touchscreen netbookSome unexpected news has been leaked in Taiwan today. One of local big manufacturers, Wintek, shared with the community that they have a deal with Apple to supply them with touch panels. That can only mean one thing - apple is preparing a touchscreen device for, hopefully, this year. The news is indeed unexpected but yet highly anticipated. Apple fans and users know that the cheapest notebook Apple is shipping today is 13 inch MacBook for ten hundreds USD. That is a lot, so a cheaper netbook could work well for Apple since netbook market is growing very fast.

A netbook from Apple was drawn in our minds even before the year has started, but we never actually had a clue when will it be and what will it be like. Now, apart from what Wintek revealed today, there also is info from Quanta Computer, another Taiwan-based Apple collaborator, who says they are actually going to build a netbook for Apple very soon. What’s more, Wintek sends their touchscreens to Quanta Computers. So, finally, we can say that there will be a touch sensitive Apple netbook and it will not come into contradiction with logics.

What you see on the picture is just an improvised sketch of what Apple’s netbook may look like, but I think it will have to be somewhat more special to beat Vaio P that looks great and costs under a thousand dollars. I just hope Apple will not go into the same story Sony did with Vaio P calling it an ultra portable which is supposed to sound fancier than a netbook.
