Acer plans up to 10 Android and WinMo smartphones for 2010

Dec 23, 2009
Latest news brought from a trustful source from Acer unveil company's smartphone production plans for the next year. Acer, as it turns up, is going to tick balance in favor of Android rather than Windows Mobile, but both mobile operating systems will be used in Acer smartphones coming out in 2010. To start naming facts as they came from Acer, the main thing is that they will release up to ten smartphones during the whole year.

What' more, there will be entry-level Android devices powered by ST-Ericsson PNX6719 3G chipset solution. That sounds tempting to me especially if we bring in mind what new features and functionality Android 2.0 has to offer. We have it that there will be three entry-level Android smartphones from Acer next year. It is also known that their production will be outsourced to FIH while smartphones based on Windows Mobile will be outsourced to Inventec Appliances. A couple of relatively cheap and fewer business models Acer engineers will design by themselves borrowing only Brew Mobile Platform known also as BMP and Snapdragon from Qualcomm respectively. Some of these, source says, are aimed to compete with HTC. Another interesting figure is 750 - this is the number of people Acer incorporates into its smartphone team that is responsible for Android units only.
